Clutch making chattering noise?
Hey guys, I've recently noticed a slight chattering type sound coming from my 98 Mustang GT. The noise happens when I press in the clutch at slow speeds, mainly in 2nd gear, but I can also hear the noise when the car is in neutral. When it's in neutral and I press down the clutch I can hear the chattering sound and then it goes away when I let out the clutch. Any ideas on what the issue could be and how much I would be looking to get it fixed? Any help would be appreciated.

Throwout bearing and/or worn clutch fork would be the first place I would look. I have an '01 manual trans car that I use for everyday driving [ the '14 GT is a nice weather fun car ]. The throwout bearing on the SN 95's is kind of cheaply made and the clutch fork rides on a stud inside the bellhousing that only gets lubed when it's first installed. Neither part is particularly expensive. You can get the throwout bearing from any auto parts store. I believe the fork is a Ford only item. Good luck.
