New Mustang GT Owner (came from WRX)
Can you honestly say from an objective view how you liked the Subaru?
The wifey and I plan on getting another car in about a year or two.
Her car choices are either:
Mini CountryMan AWD John Cooper Works (which we'd probably load it up w/ performance parts)
or a Subaru WRX STi, especially depending on how the new body works out.
Currently we just have the Mustang for a car, and then rely on the metro or her Motorcycle, but we expect in two years we might very likely be living elsewhere, and will need a second car.
She likes cars, but isn't an enthusiast like me to the same degree, but still enjoys cars, so I can totally understand and back up her two potential choices. It's not about all out speed, but for an all around fun, sporty car.

The downside of getting a Subaru is they are really behind the curve with technology. Don't expect anything cutting edge with the STi or WRX. I mean a 2.5 turbo (305hp) that gets 23mpg. Yea, that's pathetic. Also, their reliability, especially with the 08+ cars is questionable.

I also had a WRX before I went back to a Mustang. It was a 2011 hatchback. Nice car, but not really "me". It's hard to explain.....just a bit too boy racer for a guy in his late 30's.
Subarus are really popular up here in the Pacific Northwest though. Also I think the Forester is the model of choice in the lesbian community!

My only disappointment was that when we had our 3 days of snow last year, my "all season" tires were terrible in the snow. That would be easily fixed had I gotten some steelies with dedicated snow tires, but I never got that much into the car to plan for the future. I wanted a mustang when I got the WRX but I talked myself out of it by going for the "practical" WRX. In reality a Forester or Outback would have been much more practical albeit less fun.
The shifter was a point of contention too....I bought a Kartboy shifter and swapped out the bushing, but it was still too vague and never really felt tight. Yes, it is even worse than the MT82!
Other than that, like I said earlier it was a little too flashy and boy racer for me. I feel much more comfortable in a V8 Mustang. Maybe it's all in my head but ya gotta drive what makes you happy right?
This thread went off topic pretty fast. Danielle have you thought of the Audi A3 Quattro? That thing is a blast to drive. I test drove one when I was looking for a car two cars ago. The DSG auto is a lot of fun too.
