New Grille + Fogs
New Grille + Fogs
So I finally got around to installing my first couple mods. A while back I bought the GT/CS front valance and a 7-bar retro grille from AM, and a set of HID CS fogs from CaptDistraction.
Unfortunatly, due to a shipping glitch at AM, the grille ended up shipping without the hardware, and it took a few weeks to get a replacement set shipped.
The installed look is pretty good. Although I must say that I'm considering getting the grille powdercoated either black or liquid mercury (to match the wheels, which I'll probably be getting done soon). After the install it's a little too shiny for my tastes, and the pony badge kind of gets lost.

P.S. I know the badge looks a little off kilter in pic 2, but I aligned it so that it looks vertical when looking at the grille from a distance rather than parallel with the bars.

That loooks awesome. I see what you mean about the grille being a bit shiney.
I'm thinking about the same grille in black, and centering the pony (boss style) and getting my surround painted to match the body (also boss style).
How is the quality of the grille?
Ever get the kinks worked out of the hid fogs?
I need to get the ducts installed in mine soon, looks so weird with nothing in the holes.

I actually originally bought the black grill, but it arrived and the paint job was trash, so I returned it and the paint job on the second was also trash, so I returned it and got the plain polished one. The build quality of the grill is great, they just haven't quite gotten the paint on the black ones right. Both of the ones I got had 2-3 blemishes each, where the paint was wrinkled or spots where the paint was missing altogether:

So that's why I'm leaning more towards powdercoating the polished one.
Install was pretty straight forward, although I did break one clip on the outer grill frame, but it's holding on fine with 3. The only real problem I had was that tightening the nut on the back of the pony badge was actually pulling the badge off of the mounting bracket because the clips weren't stong enough, so I ended up epoxying the badge to the bracket.
Yea, I ended up getting the light problem worked out, turns out it was polarity like you suggested. I thought that the plugs were keyed so they'd only go one way, but I was wrong. The HIDs are def the way to go, they're so much better than the stock GT fogs.

nice. Thanks for the heads up on the grille. I'll either ask them to check it first, or just order the polished one and powdercoat it (then again, may shop it against the roush one at that point for costs's sake).
Hey dude this is the grille setup I run on the car when I go to the track--GT surround w/ AM black bar grille. You can check it out if you like.
Paint the surround I have, get the AM grille, install a v6 car pony fender emblem (or cut that emblem off the #15 car grille and move it to my car, shouldn't carry over its bad luck will it?)
Yeah, with the 302S grille being pricey, this might be a neat way to make a clean, but track ready boss-like look.

Thanks for posting the build quality of the grill you bought/installed. If I go the route of a custom grill, it would also be black, as my Mustang is red, very red!. I don't think I'd buy the shiny and have it powdercoated, but instead buy one that is already black. Looks like I'd have to avoid the one you got to do this. Your's looks great, but isn't it sad that you had to send two back, and epoxy the emblem to counter the poor design of it's brackets...
Thanks for sharing your experiences with this. Nice Mustang! That blue (KONA?) was my first choice, but the red I ended up buying was a loaded, optioned out deal I could not pass up.
