Maybe I'm going off the retro end. . .

Place the ignition on the dash.

Work the dash design in the direction of the '69 dash (not too likely, I know). At least develop a little bit of passenger side "scoop" in the dash, like the SN95's.

Power seats for driver and passenger.

Keep the retro gauge graphics.

Keep the exterior free of excess badges.

Keep the running Mustang on the grille.

Incorporate sequential signals (not only on the Mustang, but every Ford product where the layout makes sense for sequentials.

Take all fake scoops out back behind the assembly plant and shoot them. Never look back. Never tack them on again. You've kept them off for two years now. Keep on leaving them off.

If possible in OEM configuration, lower the Mustang slightly or play with geometry to reduce the tire/wheel well space.

If practical, find a way to incorporate the MyColor element into the mid-dash area lighting (sound system, etc.)

With all that said, the S197 redesign is a thing of incredible beauty. This is by no means a list of complaints.

This is not good news at all. Just when I thought the 05 was going to be my last stang for a long, long time, how I am going to explain to my wife that we cannot have kids now that another version is going to be released that I just have to have.

It is also rumored the 2009 Mustang will incorporate two-color paint schemes from the factory, much larger tires, and spoilers that might be considered a little "ricey" for their height.

Unfortunately, curb weight will be increased considerably.

Wow - fantastic news. Now this link will be the first thing I check each day as I'm already dreading my "underpowered" Mustang GT facing the 400+ HP Challengers in a couple of years. Of course, a nice SE in 08 will curb my appetite some if they do it right. Otherwise - a new 09 will fit right in the 3rd space in my garage.
Most challengers won't be 400+hp versions

As for Ford, Mustang never coppies anything.

Thats the only thing I didn't care for in my 02. It just reminded me of a non-muscle car. Can't explain it.

The Mustang has the LATCH system. What more do you need?

Stop stalling!

That's right--the 2009 45th Anniversary Mustang will feature "hips" over the rear wheels.
what's taking so long?? it's not too late for '07 is it?

Ford just made alot of money with the redesinged 05 Mustang, and now they are on the move to make a newer Mustang that I'm sure will sell alot. Ford knows it's cards, and they are playing them good.

I wonder If they will just show us a concept first, and if it will be based off the same body, which I'm positive it will. Can't wait to see how it looks, I'm sure It will look alot better than the competition out there, It always has.

Right now I was looking to buy a 65 Fastback but I decided to save up money to buy the 07 Shelby. And know that I hear they will be putting Hips on the 09 Mustangs, I may wait to see the next Cobra, or I could just also convince my Dad to get a 09 pony and get the Shelby.

Thanks for the info Brad. It seems you have been talking to alot of people lately about alot of things . Your always the first one out there with the fresh news, that's one of the reasons why I love this site.

I think we'll see a prototype at an auto show before the release, but not a concept like with the 2005 model.

For anyone still not understanding what is meant by "hips" (also known as "shoulders") here's a pic of a '65 Fastback.

The '09 was given a sneek peek at NAIAS to those on the dealer design board with Ford and they almost unanimously disliked what Ford had come up with compared to what Dodge (Challenger) and Chevy (Camaro) had at the show. Very underwhelmed as I was told. There have been several '09's spotted at Roush that are under development.

Since it's a Mustang, shouldn't it be "haunches" or "withers" instead of shoulders or hips?

Quick photoshop of a possible 2009 look (with hips), with a 69/70 style influence.
