Went to install my Koni sports and could not get one of the two lower strut bolts out. My impact gun is supposed to go to 250ft lbs but no luck. Tried breaker bar too. Bottom one came out no prob but top one ain't going anywhere yet. Need to get a different socket for my larger breaker bar and give that a try. Anyone else get stuck on this?

Nope...big arms, a big breaker bar and a determined person! My impact gun wouldn't do it either. I think those pinch bolts are torqued to around 300ft/lbs.

A contractor friend of mine is lending me a more powerful air impact gun. My cordless just does not have enough juice. Dont want to use a huge breaker bar because if it slips its going to hit the fender.

Just be aware that impacts can ruin bolts pretty quick. I always use a breaker bar for stuck bolts, to avoid rounding the head or snapping the bolt.

I know but after checking my impact gun is only 200ft lbs. Those bolts are normally torqued to 166ft lbs. My dealer installed my springs before I bought the car so no telling if they just used an impact and just made it real tight. 200ft lbs is not enough torque.

When changing struts I use my cheapo harbor freight 700 ft lb. and I never have any trouble.

166ft/lbs? God it sure seemed like more than that to me. I guess I am getting old!

I do agree though about ultra high torque impact wrenches. I've watched a lot of bolts go rolling to the floor followed by an entire dictionaries worth of explatives.

I had a lot of trouble with mine too, but raising/lowering the control arm and a breaker bar along with some kroil got it off for me.

Trust me its the cordless impact driver I have. It could not take out the panhard bar bolt either and that's not torqued that much. Can't use an impact driver. Needs to be an impact wrench. The Milwaukee Fuel I have is awesome for anything that does not require huge torque. But over 150ft lbs and it has trouble. Will give it a little support while removing it.

Cordless impacts aren't very powerful to begin with. I only use mine for stuff 80 ft lbs or less.

If you do use a stronger impact, make sure to have a very good 6 point socket that fits the bolt head snuggly... Otherwise have fun with the rounded head. Never use a 12 point with an impact.

My air gun couldn't get it off either. Had to get creative with a breaker bar and extensions. Probably not ideal, but it got the job done.

In my experience cordless impacts are almost useless and air impacts are only as good as the volume of air you can supply not psi.

I have a 1.8hp 20gal tank air compressor. Will that do the trick? And I agree with you on the cordless. They really are not good for high power.

Cordless is great for lower torqued bolts. I use mine all the time. Just have to know it's limitations and not expect it to perform like a 3/4" air impact.
