I have a Garmin and they keep trying to sell me up-dated maps.
I like the navigation system. When the free subscrition ran out, i got the regular Sirius radio subscrition because i never used the gas prices and other features. I'll up-date my g.p.s. maps in a couple years .

I love how people try to say the Elect. pkg. isn't worth it. LOL ok if you say so. If its so bad then why are you having such a difficult time convincing people it isn't worth it? And why do so many people regret not getting it?
Look obviously its not worth it to everybody, but thats not what this thread is about. This guy didn't know it was available so now he wants to see if he can get it. He likes it, and so do most of us. Deal with it.

I'm glad I got it in mine. Yes, MyFord Touch will surpass it. So what? Go buy a brand new computer/smart phone/Hi-Def TV and no matter how awesome it is, it will be surpassed by next year's hot machines.

I am just trying to help people decide on wheather or not to get it before they purchase rather than trying to advise or assist on retrofitting the system. As I said (for me) it is well worth the price even without maps of the European roads where I am located. I also do not get Sirius satelite coverage. If there were no option to have at least the current system that mustangs can get in 2010 to present then there would not be a new mustang in my driveway. MyFord Touch is the evolution of the current systems offered from Ford. Of course the features are improved and overall better. It brings a new set of design changes in the gauge cluster area for the mustang that they were not ready to introduce in this model anyhow. I will get that system when available.

And just to drive my point home, here CNET provides fairly indepth video reviews of in-car tech features and prices from most manufacturers. I have been watching these reviews for a while and Ford seems to lead the way in terms of features and values even prior to the MyFord Touch generation. You can compare what you get in the current mustang to the high end vehicles.....meaning cars costing over $80K and the "BASIC" mustang system is still better than those and actually cost much less. See for yourself.
http://reviews.cnet.com/cars-trucks/ - Choose any vehicle in any price range and click play to watch the review.
Then familiarize yourself with the system that Ford offers in the current mustang. You will have to pay for XM or Sirius anyhow on any system and it is not all that much for the features.
One example is the $70K Porsche Cayenne - http://reviews.cnet.com/automobiles/...?tag=mncol;lst which has the same or far less features overall and it costs $3500 for it's electronics package.
You can do this all day and $2200 and up will get you a version of a manufacturers Electronics package and it may not include USB port or an IPOD only interface. How much is the Ford system worth????
Prove me wrong. My feelings won't be hurt.

5 best tech cars - see the electronics package features and prices - http://reviews.cnet.com/best-tech-ca...tColumnArea1.0
I saved you some work. Just look at the Audi system alone and considering it actually does less that the mustang system for thesame price. The Audi also has a rotary joystick controller to interface the system....silly. How can you connect a Zune or other USB device? Look at the search for music.....I have over 2000 songs I can access much easier in the mustang.
The mustang system is a great value and one of the best. So we can stop complaining about the price for the Ford system. You get a better system than what is out on the market for less in most cases from other manufacturers.

Say what you want about the features of Nav systems, but there really are not that many providers of map data or traffic information. Whether you drive with a $3000+ system or a $100 one, there is a good chance you are using the same basic maps that often (after more than 2 1/2 years living at my newly constructed house) send people 5 miles in the wrong direction when trying to find my house. Google does get it right now, but others often do not. For many it is nice having a GPS unit built in, but for actual directions and traffic info they are pretty similar to handheld devices. Honestly, I usually just sit my Droid next to me, and have it talk me to places. No wires or suction cups, and I get to look things up on the newest maps available in an unbeatable number of ways. Having said that, I actually do have a nav system on order as part of my 2012 GT order. This is because of many reasons including;
1. Once the car is built, I will never want to put in one later.
2. With the Sync applink, hopefully the system will eventually be able to talk to my phone enough to do something useful
3. I had the money for the first time in my life, so why not get the car with the package.
4. I HATE my wife's choice of temperature. The ability to have even a slightly different temperature will make this worth it.
5. As good as the Droid is, it is used to do other things than Navigate. At least this way, the phone can be freed up to do other important things while I am getting directions to a new place.
If you do not think small devices give as good of directions, you are just wrong., but large systems are not totally useless Edit: I meant to say that large systems are not without their own charms, but clearly not for everyone. I got kicked off of the computer when it was time for bed, because my wife does not concur that this is a worthwhile activity.

One thing for certain is that there are not any features that I have found on other manufacturers vehicles that I desire to have on my car.
As far as a $200-$300 portable nav system/smart phone/etc added to 2011 mustang windshield for navigation and then comparing that setup to a car with the electronics package would be considerably cheaper but it will leave a lot more to be desired.
For example:
I may want to play a DVD or rip music to the hard drive or scan my music on a screen instead of a small display. I may want to adjust the heat and climate controls different from my passenger. I may want to view photos of my loved ones everytime I am in my car and have the images change randomly. I may not want to fumble with adjusting the volume of a seperate device when I get a phone call. I may want to totally control the system via voice at times. I do not want to hide a device anytime I get out of the vehicle for a short period of time and punch in destinations while driving. You can do so via voice on the Ford system and maybe some portable systema as well. But the portable devices are not integrated as well into any car.

Here is a one minute overview and a more in depth system review:

In all honesty many people should be a bit more informed and familiar with products/features before posting inaccurate and misleading comments.
I hope the videos helped. I am done with this thread.

I agree. The eco route is nice but more useful on the Ford Fusion. On the other hand there may be a lot for you to discover about MyFord Touch because it does much more than the feature you mentioned.

The Navigation element is the same though. It still even carries the Sync brand name.

SYNC has nothing to do with the SD card based navigation or hard drive based navigation. MyFord Touch uses SYNC generation TWO. And SYNC is the voice controlled interface. It has been enhanced anyhow regardless of the name. It works quite different to SYNC generation ONE.
WTF difference does it make anyhow? The price is cheaper and you can get MyFord Touch without navigation anyhow for around $1000 and still have the screen and controls. That was the main topic of the discussions.
If this was a test you would have failed. Sorry if I sound like an @$$ but some of us contribute helpful or useful info and others just like to show their lack of intelligence (just a guess). Guess what the above statement exposed. It is OK to not jump into every thread and state opinions. Just learn and contribute or ask a question. There are many helpful and knowledgeable members here. I still learn from you all as well. Again sorry if I seem a bit harsh but that wasn't even worth posting after being politely corrected once.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoNeI...eature=channel - Nav route preferences with MyFord Touch. The Eco Route is a preference you do not have to select. Most of the map details looks different to the previous generation.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-hxp...eature=channel - As mentioned before....here is another huge difference.

What does any of this My Ford Touch stuff matter anyway? If you already have a mustang and want to get Navigation, then you either A. Buy a handheld GPS, B. Use a decent quality smartphone, C. Do an Ipad mod or something similar, D. Find some way to rig up the real Ford system (and that will be a fair amount of work and $$) or E. Learn to read a map and go the cheap route. Either way, unless someone finds a way to rig up a My Ford Touch from a different model of crashed vehicle to a Mustang, then what does it really matter? I like slightly annoying comments as much as the next person, but even I have had my fill of this pointless banter. I suggest we talk about that in the 2014 thread, cause unless they get it for 2013, then it will be at least then when we see it. Make the choice we discuss here the one we actually have on hand right now.

Just wanted to say, thank you everyone for the great posts. Great technical data, videos and opinions. While I have all the functionality I need already, I even have Nwvigon on iPhone and iPad, so the really is no NEED for it, really. However, I'd give my right ear for a touchscreen and keeping sync! Mytouch or no, it's a great system, and I've liked what I've seen. Dealer still hasn't told me the price. Will follow up tomorrow. Thanks again, everyone!

MFT was brought up as an argument against the EP. The bottom line is that the EP encompasses more than just NAV. MFT encompasses more than the EP (but only when you pay for the additional option of NAV).
Arguing EP vs MFT+NAV is moot unless you want to wait until 2014 when MFT becomes available.
