My car arrived but I didn't buy it.
Try to condense the story. Ordered Jan., built May 6, surprise delivery July 2. Dealer was totally clueless about the hold-up (not news since Ford wasn't/isn't telling anyone). Few weeks ago I asked the sales manager if he could find where my car was, he said "Yes, I could. But it is a lot of work." Yeah, right. It sure is a lot of work to type in a VIN.
Anyway, the car appeared at the dealer over the weekend. It had 4 "E-Stickers" in the window, assuming these are part of the QC agenda. The QC mileage sticker stated they put 39 miles on the car, the odometer read 54. Okay, I figure a little driving around the lots going from QC station to QC station.
The next day, it has 66 miles on it. A little joy ride anyone? Still not a major deal breaker but something that just sticks in my craw.
Today I go to pay for it and then I'll bring it home. I look it over fairly well. The center console covering is damaged, appears etched with some chemical. The owner finally agrees to have it replaced. THEN I see that the right front quarter panel is out of alignment with the hood and is sticking out from where it meets the door. I point this out to the salesperson, the mechanic and the owner. Graciously, no one dissagrees, it's obvious.
WAIT FOR IT! .............
The owner tells me there's no way he's going to get involved in straigtening the quarter panel and that when buying a production car, there has to be some give-and-take and he walks away.
Here I am assuming, of course, he means for me to give him $42,000 and take his POS off the showroom floor.
I walked away too. The salesman asked if I wanted to order another one, the wait wouldn't be so long since production is cranked up now. I tell ya, my mood for the car is so deflated at this time, and especially with this local dealer who I tried to support with business, that I can't bring myself to get pumped up about it.
What would you have done?

IF my car every gets here, I plan to check the mileage, check the paint and if the engine numbers match. I have printouts from the factory stating that fender went to paint repair, timing chain noise, and other minor fixes had to be made.
Go somewhere else. Your dealer obviously doesn't care about you, so why should you care about him? There are PLENTY of other places which would be more than happy to help you get exactly what you want. You just have to hurry up and play the waiting game again, but in the end when you drive off that lot, the smile on your face stretching ear to ear will make it completely worth it.
"Give and take"?
You ordered a $42K car, and have to take a 15 mile and a 12 mile "joy ride" w/ your ordered vehicle?
On my ordered vehicle I had to spell out I wanted status updates, not the "we'll call you when it arrives" that they kept parroting to my request. When I ratcheted-up the request they relented.
Their job is to earn profit by providing a product. Make the dealership earn their profit.

That is astonishing. The fender doesn't even line up on a brand new car and he wants you to just take it? Makes you wonder what their used car lot is like. "Yeah, so the engine is on fire. Lots of cars are like that. Do you want it or doncha?"
That stinks that you've waited all this time, but I think you are best off going to another Ford dealer. Before placing another special order, have them check to see if there are any Mustangs already on other dealer lots that match your specifications.

Since I wanted a convertible for the summer, and in northern Michigan, summer does not last very long, I need to decide to reorder (try for Job 2 production of 2011) or wait six months and get a 2012.
The 2012 seems to make most sense, I just hope they don't decide to shrink the interior compartments again. I really like the bigger cabin. I'm 6'4".

I think my car might have turned out like that when it finally got here. That's why I cancelled. Good call not accepting your car as well.

A dealer like that does not deserve your business or anyone else's. I would have said to the owner. "Ok. you want give and take. How about I give you a piece of my mind. You can take this POS and shove it up your a$$"
Give and Take
GIVE me my deposit back..
I'm TAKING my business elsewhere

would I have accepted that car. That dealer would for sure never get my business again, and I would make sure all my friends knew the story too!!!
