Is my 2011 GT supposed to idle high for the first 30 sec of start up?

Just got a used 2011 gt and have noticed on cold start up that it idles at 1500 rpm's for 30 to 40 seconds then idles down to under 1000. Is that normal?

Mine will hold that idle for about 10 to 15 seconds, then drop to below 1K.

It's to help generate heat to enable the catalytic converters to begin working sooner and remove pollutants out of the exhaust gas.

Yep - you can tune it out if you remove all your cats Completely fine though, every car I've ever had does this.

Except my '94 Jeep... it wanted to pollute the world

Mine does it only when it's cold outside, or haven't been driven in several days.

I noticed if I barely blip the throttle while it's idling high, it'll settle immediately down to 1000 rpm and move down from there. I assume it's supposed to do that because it thinks I've started driving and the cats will warm while I drive.

That and to help circulate the oil to all the essentials faster before putting load on the motor while driving at the same RPM.
