Mustang model codes?

S197 vs S297? Is the 2005 thru 2010 referred to S197 and 2011 thru 2013 S297? Curious, I see these references a lot and would like to know whats what.

The S197 runs from 2005 to 2014. The 2015 will not be a S197. This is platform same as SN-95 or Foxbody

Not sure of the accuracy of this info (feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken) but here's how I understand it:

1979-1993 Fox Body
1994-1998 SN95 Body
1999-2004 New Edge Body (really just an evolution of the SN95)
2005-2014 S197

the platform for the cars from 79-04 were technically all Fox platforms

the 94-04 were just made a little bigger

an entirely new platform came in 05

Actually the Platform codes were as follows:
79-93 Fox
94-04 Fox4 ( code name for the car was sn95 and was the same all the way through 04, new edge came from the styling and was an easy was to diferenate between the 94-98 and 99-04)
05-14 S197

In some OEMs, the 2 may designate a refresh. I could see them internally using S197-2, but they typically use a letter for platform followed by a 3-digit number to designate the program.

It was also mentioned in one of the '15 threads that the new platform is S5XX, but I can't remember the exact title.
