Until you shift into second at high RPM. I know myself and other drivers/reviewers have had some issues shifting into second.

But it is going to cost more to have that transmission shipped from Europe. Tremec would be shipping from Mexico. Unless of course they build the Getrag unit in Mexico as well seeing as how Ford went in with Getrag on a tranny design company. We'll have to see though.

Geographic shipping cost differences will be largely transparent, shipping a container over the ocean is about the same cost as driving one across the country. Not to mention how atrociously difficult it is to calculate and compare the true cost of geographic origin when you factor in the incentives manufacturers receive from nations that are trying to boost their domestic manufacturing base....

2. Probably get more feedback by starting a new thread, instead of reviving one almost a year old
3. Just because it's built in China means it's bad?
4. Are you sure it's the trans and not the clutch?

Quite a few threads about hard shifting MT82's in both 5.0 and 3.7 cars.
Many of the descriptions of the problem sound like the clutch is not fully disengaging. Sounds like air in the hydraulics to me keeping the throwout bearing from depressing the pressure plate far enough.

My brother works for a ford dealer in the service department and he keeps telling me that they're getting an INSANE number of MT-82 cars coming back with blown trannies, and 90% are within the first 3000 miles. So something is clearly wrong with these transmissions. I'm just glad I listened to his advice and opted for the auto (coupled with my other reasons for going with an auto).

I noticed the car I drove GT/3.55/Brembo/MT-82, was hard to get into 2 and 3. There was some occasional grinding similar to my current car that has a bad slave cyl. Possible these are shipping with air in the lines, which is what happens when a slave cyl starts to go bad.
I am also suspect of anything made in China though. This may seal the deal on me either waiting until 2012, or going with the Camaro instead. I can't deal with another poor shifting manual.

Well I priced out the Richmond and it was only $3100 shipped. And I would pay that out of pocket instead of opting for a Ford replacement. The Richmond unit is proven whereas the MT-82 is not. It is an alternative, albeit a relatively bulletproof alternative.

And then you would need to mod the console to get the shifter up through it.
So, how much is that new richmond tranny now???
