Military 2014 Order, questions

I currently live in Japan, Okinawa specifically. I will be buying from AAFES New Car Sales, they have some great offers and right now have some great rebates. I spoke with one of their salesmen today, and he gave me what I think is a pretty great quote. Here's the details:

2014 V6 Coupe
6-speed manual transmission
Performance Package
Gotta have it Green
7-year/75,000 mile Owners Protection Plus (Major Component Coverage)
Zeibart South Full body Rust protection, Inner Guard(Interior stain protection), and Underbody Sound Barrier

Price: $24,302 (60mo./3.9%APR)

I think its a great deal. Now, my question is this. I have until November (when I leave) to make any changes I want to this order. I can cancel anything (warranty?) or change anything. I won't lose any of the rebates I have gotten and if they get better, I get the largest rebate possible. I can also even change to the next model year (2014.5?, 2015) if it becomes available before I leave... at no extra charge.

Now, I don't want to go Premium, I don't need it, won't use it. This is how I want this model. The doubt I have are 1) The Warranty; Do I need to spend the $1,700 on that when I get 3yr/36k for free? That would drop my final price by quite a bit. Also, I am really hoping they release a 50th Anniversary 2014.5 before I leave...

Do you guys typically spring for the extra warranty? I've read all good things about the reliability of the newer Mustangs. Thanks!

Wow. That list went wayyyy south after gotta have it green. Never seen a more offending list of dealer markup before.

O, and I hope for your sake you don't sit in a premium car. It would have been moot in the end costwise and you would already have the leather seats that all 300/301a owners around here are making posts about installing...

I would recommend not buying the warranty from AAFES. Google Ford ESP and you will find much better deals for an extended warranty. I'd also avoid any rust protection, stain protection and sound barrier like the plague. If you have an account with USAA you should be able to get a better interest rate with them. Make sure you get any military and college student discounts that apply to you and go to ford.com and request a mustang brochure. That should net you a $750 coupon. Good luck!

My advice is to go with the premium package. The base stereo in the deluxe is junk. The cloth seats stain with water drips. The extra warranty is a waste. You could put that $1700 in a bank and use it for any non covered repairs down the road if you wanted to. The power train warranty is still 5 year 60,000 miles so you will not really need that 15k coverage for $1700. Very much a waste.

The ziebart package is also a cost to avoid. Ford has a 10 year rust warranty already. Ziebart actually causes more rust by drilling out the holes and trapping I. Moisture. I would skip that all together even if it were free.

Lastly the next body is going to be released in April of next year. It will without a doubt be a nice new car. As with any of Fords new releases, you would be better served waiting on the 2016 and just look at the 2015 instead. If you like the 2013/14 body the stick with it. Put a few of the extras on it to make it yours. The premium, in my opinion, is a mandatory option as it really ups the quality feel with higher level items.

This is all just my opinion so take it for what it is or leave it. I have worked with ziebart in the past and still go there to get my windows tinted but leave the rest alone. Good luck with you car and thanks for you service from a fellow soldier.

In any new car in general, I don't understand why people wouldn't want the premium options. Why would anyone want the cheapness that can creep into a base model. My ex had a 2006 Mustang. Other than the pony package, no options. That thing seemed so general and cheap.

About the radio, I plan to rip most of the stock radio out and do my own thing. Premium is 4k more... For leather seats? That just doesn't seem very cost effective to me. My top choice wouldn't be just buying any old mustang, I really want the 50th anniversary edition, just for the simple fact that I have always been such a big fan of the mustang, I think it'd be cool to have that edition...

Where did you hear that there would be a 50th Anniversary Edition of a 2014 Mustang? There is nothing in the 2014 Order Guide mentioning a 50th Anniversary Edition.

That was back in Nov 2012, I would like to see what their answer is now.
The 65 Mustang was released in Apr 64, the 2015 is suppose to be released Apr 2014. Sounds like 50 years to me.

The '99 was the 35th anniversary, the '04 was the 40th...

It's always been celebrated as if '64 is the original year.

I purchased my 2013GT Premium last year while I was overseas as well. I was looking at not getting the premium either, but a few days prior to signing the paperwork I changed it. And boy I'm glad I did. It is worth the price. As for the extra warranty. All depends on you really. I did it, but I also see the points of those posting about it being a waste. Again up to you on that. Enjoy the process, it was alot of fun building the car you want, and then seeing it in person once you pick it up.

What premium option makes the 4k worth it? Specifically. Everyone says I will regret not getting it but no one really says why I should.

I just ordered my 14 Premium GT through AAFES. Ditch the Ziebart and the warranty. Also what is your credit like? They got me 1.49% for 60 through Andrews Federal Credit Union.

I got check my local credit union and USAA still. Credit is pretty good... So I should be fine to get a similar loan.

Watch those protection plans... The Owners Protection Plus seems sketchy. Average drivers will hit 75k before 7 years. That just seems like a weird deal because usually the years/miles match with average. I think the average is 12,000 miles/year. Personally I say get an extended warranty just because of the MT82. But don't get one that isn't worth the price.

The rust protection might be costing alot. When they offered it to me they wanted $2,000. I can get any rust fixed for less than that.

I bet if you took those two things off your price would go down even more.

The current quote, without the OPP and without the Rust protection is $22,699. I've already decided not to get them.
