losing a quart of oil every 2k miles....normal
Normal or not? And where could it be going if there is nothing on the ground where I park. Checked oil today and no oil on the dipstick. Had to add 3 quarts. Changed oil last 6k miles ago. Car is a 12 gt with 14.5k miles
Pretty normal for this engine although some claim going 5K without using oil after engine is well broken in (Ford claims 10K to reach this point). I just hit 1K on mine and have used 1/2qt, so that consumption is about the same as yours. However, I would look for that to improve after 10K on the engine. It makes me nervous that you are only checking oil once in 6K miles. That is not good maintenance practice in anybody's book. Hopefully, the 3 quarts low has not caused any excess wear.
It's a brand new car it should not be burning that much oil. Nothing on the ground so didn't even think to check till today bc it just didn't feel right. No clunking noise or pinging or any noise for that matter coming from the engine area.

I burned a quart ~every 1500 miles for the first 6-7K. At 18K now and it's dropped to <qt/5K.
Almost impossible for me to get a good mark on my dipstick, though. I just ensure the lower hole is covered w/oil when I check it warm 15 minutes after shutdown. When it isn't I add a qt then recheck.
On anouther thread here there is a rumor that changing the PCB valve to a gt500 PCB valve stopped the consumption. Now I don't know the validity of this rumor but its a cheap fix if it works.

Let me rephrase the 900 mile normal - that's what it needs to be below before they'll do anything about it. Some of you may remember the TSB on oil consumption for the 5.0's in the late 80's and that was the number.
The documentation procedure begins with bringing the car in for an oil change, then bringing it back any time oil needs to be added for proper documentation. I don't remember how many miles needed to accrue before it was official. I did so many rerings (with valve seals) that I could have it done in one shift.
