Lightweight battery?

In my previous car I had a lightweight battery that I used in the summer for track season. I know some cars (corvettes) react... Strangely... To lightweight and low amperage batteries (corvettes apparently will either cease to start or lock the steering wheel, forget which it is) wondering if anyone knows of any issues with lightweight batteries in mustangs? I like saving 35 lbs or so up front!

That sounds like an issue with amperage and not the weight of the battery. I would think as long as you get a battery with the appropriate cold cranking amps you should have no issues.

Yes agreed its the amperage that is the issue. Not the fact it's light... Of course the light batteries have far fewer cca's than OEM batteries

Not entirely true, check out Braille batteries.

I had a Braille previously. Worked great for me, although they seem to over rate their cca's

Brailles also don't last very long.

I also had a Deka EXT14 before, which I used through the winter. It was fine unless the car sat for more than a week in the cold (like when I traveled...) and it weighed a total of 12 lbs. I would buy again

Had only 200 or so CCA's, but it was plenty to start an S4

I have had one of these in my STi...which has a beefy alpine Amp in it for over a year DD use and it works great. Not too spendy either...

They make a wide range that have various weights and capacities.

What you loose with most light weight batteries is reserve capacity...so don't go bumping the stereo for long with the engine off.

BTW, you wont be saving 35lbs...it will be more like 20 unless, assuming you have the same stock battery I do...it weighs about 38lbs.

Unless you can afford to get a battery like this one...

Ok 35 lbs may be a bit optimistic... Haha. I think my old car had about a 45 lb battery tho so I saved about 30 lbs there. But 38-12 is still a 26 lb weight savings! Wish I had budget for one of those super light batteries!
