Late build '11 or order 2012?

Hi everybody...

New to the forum and Mustangs in general. Looking to get a new 5.0 either a late build 2011 or order a 2012. I drove a 5.0GT Prem 6MT 3.73 recently and was majorly impressed with it's feel only to then come home and read the issues that several owners have had with assorted clutch issues. My question is if you had a choice would you feel safe enough in grabbing a late build 2011 6MT 3.73 or hold off and order a 2012 6MT 3.73 hoping that the new production would address some of the QC issues of the early '11's? These clutch issues have me nervous about pulling the trigger on an '11, but the number of folks being affected by these issues as compared to how many 6MT owners there are seems quite small such that maybe my concerns are unfounded. I'd appreciate any comments/thoughts on which way you'd go.

I don't think I would hesitate to get an '11, if you can find what you want. There have been issues with some, but most have few if any problems. I had the sticking clutch issue and a whining rear (3.73's), but both were taken care of by my dealer
and I have no regrets about buying the '11 at all. Mine was built in April so it was a
fairly early build. I am very happy with the car, as I was with my '05.
If you cannot find an '11, order exactly what you want in a '12, either way I think
you will be happy with the car........... it's just amazing.
Just my $.02.............

My '11 is a Jun. build (bought Nov.29th) with no issues now with 4200 miles on. I would not worry about the '11 unless it is not optioned as you want. May be a $$ deal on it too.

If you happen to find what you want in the '11, and do not need anything that is not coming until the '12s, like Lava Red, then go ahead and save some money. Even with the absolute worst case scenario, you do have a warranty. If for some reason it blows up after the warranty is over, even then with the money you save, you can get a very nice after market transmission. But, chances of the worst case are very slim since many more folks than not have a good transmission. I ordered a 2012 manual transmission because I wanted Lava Red.

Go with the 2012 unless you want Sterling Grey which was only on a 2011.

7500 miles on mine, and you could sell it as new. Has had zero issues of any kind, and has given me oh so very very much.

Buy the 2011 you will get a way better deal! And there is no change to the transmission or the clutch in the 2012. I have a late build 2011 gt and there is 5 others in the local mustang club I'm in all with zero problems! Only smiles! :-)

And if it's really the few people with clutch problems that is making the decision hard, just by the 2011 and with the saves money by a whole new high quality aftermarket clutch assembly and enjoy the rest of the money you saved!! My 2011 sticker was 43,000 Canadian and I got it for 34,000 so really I think your decision should be a no brainer...get the 2011 :-) hope this helps

Thanks everyone for the opinions. If I find an '11 I like I'll go for it and if not order a '12 and wait like everyone else!

the addition of the spare tire ( i think) and the garage opener was a nice addition to the 2012...there was only one new 2011 grabber blue left on long island last month i think..and it had a spoiler which my wife didn't want even though the pony pkg would have been free with the added rebate... but i think it's been sitting on the lot for several months.. i've never had a car fresh from the factory before..can't wait.....It was easier to negotiate a price on the factory order.
