I could have sworn the content window sticker on my car said the transmission was from "Mexico" not "China?" are there two different flavors of the MT-82?

No, not the ones for the Mustang 6 speed.

My transmission, my engine, my entire freaking car is perfectly fine and a wonderful piece of construction. This is one car that isn't affected by this nonsense. Everyone who has driven this car has said it has excellent shifting characteristics for all stock. Thank you, that is all.

One guy posts he cant turn the radio up high enough, 50 me too's post. so lame. im sick of it. These douches need to stop posting and go put some more stupid stickers on their cars.

While I don't disagree that some have issues with their new stang, I have said ever since joining this forum that the "newer" breed of mustang owner is sooo much different than when I started getting into stangs. It's funny if u think about it, how much more refined and powerful these cars are than even ten years ago, and some really biatch and whine over the dumbest things (drone, ride quality, floor mats). These have and always will b poor mans hot rods, not super refined porsches. Drive it like u stole it, break it, and fix it. And btw, IMO that article is very poorly written. Fwiw.

I agree completely. the 2012 I pick up in a couple months might be my first Mustang, but I've never owned a car that has no issues. Just like my previous cars I can pride myself in fixing them myself. All cars have problems and recalled items at some point in their production lifetime. One thing the fail to mention about that thread with 2700 posts, how many of those are repeat posters? Or just random people trying to give advice that don't have said problem? 90% of the talk about the transmission problems are the same people posting on every single forum that they can find through Google. Do I think there is a problem with the MT? Yes, but it is hardly as widespread as people seem to believe. They claim about 22,000 M6 Mustangs were purchased last year. On pure opinion I would say less than 5% are having issues. And most people having problems getting it fixed seem to be having problems with the dealers doing anything, not Ford itself.

I dunno about you guys...

but 50 000 for a mustang ain't cheap....I'd be complaining about things too if my 50 000 dollar car had issues....regardless of if were a mustang or anything else...

some of us dropped a lot of cash into this car...and we expect if to be worth our money...hey if I spent 30...I wouldn`t be complaining about little things...but if they`re going to charge that much..they better back it up with some decent quality at least.

If ford does something about the tranny issue...people will stop complaining...but the fact is...people with the issues are starting to be lead around in circles without having their cars fixed...im sure if you were in that position you would be losing your **** too. If ford finds a solution for the problem...the complaints will stop. Simple as that.

they couldn`t even put the GT badge on the back of my mustang on right...it has foam sticking out of the side...thats just plain laziness and poor build quality...sorry..but thats not acceptable on my gt vert that I spent hard earned cash on.

Hey, I have heated seats. But yeah, I see your point.

My take on all this is that this is really an article written just to generate some hype, draws in hits to the site and maybe draw more attention to the issue at hand. I don't disagree that it should be addressed, all I'm saying is that it's not widespread to every MT Mustang out there. A lot that could potentially be affected, but most of them I'd say are not being affected by it.

I'm not trying to belittle their problems, they're awful and I'd be ticked too if I had to go through that much. I just get a little irritated when people badmouth the whole car or a whole part line when ultimately they've only had experience with two or three iterations out of several thousand that are out there. Statistically speaking there is a good probability that something is going on, but if this were something that literally affected every manual transmission this would have been national news last summer and there would have been a total recall of all MT 2011 Mustangs.

More so I feel it's important to let people know that not all transmissions are like this to restore their confidence in it and let them make a more informed decision. With the issue not rectified or even necessarily identified it's sadly just pot luck.

If you've seen jmatero's vids, you know his car is f'd beyond repair. I feel bad for him. But I don't understand why he doesn't just lemon-law it.

There was probably something wrong with the transmission in his car to begin with, but the dealer just kept making it worse. The MT82's design is a little suspect, with the shifter being semi-remote. With all the power the 5.0 is putting out, they should have used a transmission with a direct-mounted shifter, like the TREMEC T-56.

Still, the 2011 I test-drove was great, and I hope my 2012 is problem-free for life. If it isn't, that what warranty and lemon laws are for.

In the worst case, I will start saving money and hopefully have enough by the time the powertrain warranty ends for a T-56 Magnum swap if need be.

Of course, this will be my DD and one-and-only car, so I hope it's perfect upon delivery and stays that way!

And of course, I think a lot of people are just whining. Jmatero has serious issues with his, but it seems a lot of people are just whining about a little resistance or "roughness" because it doesn't shift like their girlfriend's Civic. Try driving my Subaru if you want to experience a truly horrific manual!

Executives with the US automakers must have shared your opinion for many years which explains why other non-US automakers did so well.

Now that their thinking has been forced to change, look at how much better they are doing now.

Coincidence?

Laughin' w/ my '10

Sooooooooo glad I popped for '10 GT premium w/ trak-pak ($26K). I was so jazzed back then about the new 5.0, even had a custom plate made "COYOTE 5.0,,,,,,, then heard about the "made in China" tranny. Of course saving 7.5K off sticker was a big motivator too, couldn't pass it up... Seems like everything's made in China now, cheap junk not built to last.
