I've got to get used to the power

Last night I decided to use an on-ramp as a private little dragstrip. I flat shifted 1>2 at probably 6k (car builds speed much faster than my g35), and the back end wanted to come around on me. I powered through it, because I was afraid that if I let off that I would have some snap-back. It scared my wife thoroughly, and to be honest, I scared myself as well.

My g35 makes ~265whp/~250wtq. I imagine that my new mustang probably betters both wheel horsepower and torque by a hundred. This is the most powerful car I've ever owned, and I'm going to have to learn how to drive it. It's going to be fun.

I know that feeling. Went from an 06 Civic sedan to an 07 Mustang GT. First time I got on like you just did I looked down and was doing 80+ and still going.

My '12 is gonna be the same way and it will be my 1st manual. I can't wait.

I have gotten several "looks" from the passenger seat when playing around. As long as I seem to have it under control, there are no words.

Keep traction control on until you get the feel for the power.

My biggest problem is getting to 2nd fast enough. I have not gotten used to how quick 1st is eaten up and I am bumping the rev limiter. If I can just get used to getting the clutch back to the floor as soon as it is released in 1st, I might just master the take off yet.....

And yes, this car is a blast.

I'm coming from a 180hp minivan. I remember the first time I got a tune for my 2011 GT auto - floored it to show a friend how quick the car goes with a tune, and next thing I know the back end of the car is sliding sideways. Needless to say, my heart stopped for those couple of seconds. That was with traction control fully on. Had several times where I didn't go WOT, just gave it a good bit of gas only to break loose on the 2-3 shift and get a nasty look from my wife in the passenger seat. These cars have a lot of power.

Im right there with yall. I went from a truck to a gt. I'm 17 and trying to hot rod it of course...spun threw 2nd and almost found myself running into a pole, house and car. Luckly I regained traction and straightened out. Since then, been scared sh*tless to let her wide open again.

One wrong move and youll wind up in jail, in a ditch, or 6 feet under. Mustangs are definitely not as they were back in 64 or even 2009. A whole new breed of raging horses waiting to be break free!

I have gotten several looks and more from the passenger seat in my Toyota Sienna mnivan going on the freeway. I hate to think how she will want me to accelerate in the GT when it arrives.

You ran a 3500lb car with 265rwhp to a 13.2 in the 1/4???

I only use 1st on hills. Start in second and hold it to 60. Its a blast and feels just as fast.

Affirmative. Dyno'd 242/210 stock, then 266/250 after Intake/exhaust/tune. With drag radials, it ran 13.264@103.96mph (1.895 sixty) in November of 2007. A year later, at the same track, I went 13.274@103.9x mph (only one hundredth off).

Still trying to get used to the power here also. My last car was a 05 GT with a tune and that was pretty fast but the 11 5.0 is a beast! Thank you Ford for having 3 different traction controls on this baby. I am loving this new power!

I'll be trading in my '99 Miata once Ford gets around to building my GT, so I'll definitely need to recalibrate my right foot.
