Installing catbacks on jack stands?

I was wondering if I were able to do this in my driveway by myself. I know with my previous cars I was not able to get enough height to get the over axle pipe in. What I'm looking to do is take off my magna flows n reinstall my factory over axle pipes but with new axle backs. I know I can do the axle backs no problem but was wondering if anyone has done this in their driveway without a lift? I have been getting mixed answers. Thanks.

Hmm...

Had to check this thread out because I wondered why you might want to install cat-backs on some jackstands, jackstands don't usually have exhaust systems on them...

No, doubt you can do anything with the over-axle pipes on your car without having it on a big lift.

You may want to put the front up on ramps, then put jack stands under the rear end. That should give you enough room to get under the car easily.

A good set of axle-backs will add 25HP to a decent set of jack stands. Easy.

In all seriousness, I'll concur with what Overboost said; the best way to get more height under the car is to put the front of the car on ramps or stands as well so you don't have the back end of the car way up in the air making it unstable.

I did my 2010 V6 Dual Conversion on 2 sets of Jack stands, so yes it can be done, 1 set might be pushing it.
If you need more clearance to get the pipes off and back on you can remove the shock and anti sway bar bolts and the axle will drop down more (make sure you have the jack underneath the axle before removal). But truthfully I had no problem getting the pipe over the axle.
ALso if you remove those bolts, put some Locktight on them before reinstalling them.

Lol. I really didn't even think about the title but now I'm laughing because I'm thinking of catbacks installed on my jack stands. They would prob sound good though lol.

Almost impossible to get the Pipes over the axle with the suspension compressed while sitting on the tires that close to the ground.

I did the Pypes mid muffler system (which involved pulling out the mid-pipes) on just jack stands all around. Jack up front, put on stands (can't the jack under the front if the rear is in the air, at least not my jack), then the rear in the air and onto jack stands. My stands were fully extended, maximum height, and it was a pain to get the midpipes out and the new ones in. Lots of wedging back and forth, almost didn't make it at all. But did in the end.

SO it can be done...

And I've heard of some people doing the axle-back without even jacking up the car...

I did my 2010 by pulling out to the end of the driveway laying where the curb drops down and I had plenty of clearance, the stockers are heavy so watch for that.

Yes, axle backs can be installed without jackstands. I did it once, just to see how hard it was, took about twice as long, but easily doable. I usually use small homemade ramps made out of two thicknesses of 2x10 lumber, and it gets the car up in the air enough to make it much easier.

I did it on my 2008 on ramps in my gargage. Good think I did not know it was almost impossible at the time. I have not been under my 2011 but I thougt it was not a whole lot diffrent?
