If you have 3.31 gears........

Just a little correction, when gears are said to be "tall" the are lower numbers, 2.73s are tall gears, high numbers such as 4.56 are "short" gears. There are some confused posts in this thread.
3.73 are good drag gears with the MT-82, 3.31 are good street/gas mileage/cruising gears and 3.55s are the best road race gear in my opinion.

edited: Saw this post after I replied to the 3.31 question, but his response is much better than mine.

OP, you didn't come across directive. lol haha well... I did feel a little bit that you were just yelling at me to make me cry... but other than that. lol jk.
I'm back and forth on making the switch though. I use 1st a lot with city driving here in Houston... but I think 3.73s would be a good change!
What I'm most curious about is whats the difference (average) between 3.31s and 3.73s at the 1/4mi? Not feel, but time.
For now I do a whole lot of highway but in a month, it'll be all city! So mpg should increase around town with shorter gears.

Check the recent "red vs blue" video on youtube featuring two 2013 mustang gt's, similarly modded, one is 3.31, the other 3.73. The 3.31 walks away from the 3.73. Is it due to gears? Dunno. Maybe its a driver mod. If you are maxed out on mod choices then maybe a gear swap would make sense and put you over where you want the car to be performance wise. Hard to tell what made the 3.31 geared car pull away from the 3.73. Is it lighter wheels, driver mod or aerodynamic mods? Was it the tune? Who knows. Was it X vs H pipe? The 3.73s certainly didnt help.
