I love third gear.
I love third gear.
Well really I love the whole car, but man third gear is great.
First and second are nice, but they pull so hard you are shifting within a second or two.
Fourth and fifth are nice, but they are just a bit too high to really pull hard.
When I hit 3500 rpm at WOT in third gear... man oh man.... worth every penny of 35k

third gear is by far the best gear in both my mustangs. i had the chance to test drive a 5.0 about 2 weeks ago. impressive and very powerful. again, 3rd was the gear. i think the salesman was more impressed than i was. i really didnt have any road to open it up on...even the salesman was encouraging me to open it up.
i was nice but did experience the power and handling on the back whindy roads in southern PA

I can't say that one gear stands out. I love them all, for different reasons. First and Second for that punch in the gut, tire-squealing, rip-roaring good time. Third is nice for the full out run up past the speed limit; it's the gear I find myself downshifting into for extreme cornering, and also the gear for those nice easy rolling turns into parking lots and side streets. Fourth I swear pulls harder than third, if you're going fast enough anyway. Fifth is good for cruising in town, and Sixth is where it's at on the highway.
3.31 in 2nd: It lasts longer than 2nd with 3.73 (He was complaining about how little time it lasted) but its got 28% more torque multiplication than 3rd with 3.73. Its essentially the same as 2nd with 4.10 in the 2005-2009 with a 20% Torque Increase and a 10% higher redline.

So I'm a little behind the times with my 2010 GT, with 5-speed and 3.31 rear . . .
voted 2nd -- nice bark on the shift to the speed limit in a quick jiffy, and still have 3 gears left!
