I was afraid this was going to happen

One day when I can afford a non-abused used one. I would most certainly choose a 13/14 Shelby over a Tesla... No question. The 13/14 GT500 is my absolute favorite car of all time. I had one on order in 2012 and had to cancel because my wife lost her job.

I've driven my Neighbours 2010 GT500. I have to say. The thing is so fast that, The power and speed potential is like a drug, you always want more. But, in a way, I didn't enjoy how fast I went through the gears. I almost didn't enjoy it! went through the gears too quickly. And lets be real, its not easy to drive a car like that as if you were driving a prius. In a car like that, you want to smash the go pedal all the time.

Sounds like a very fun weekend in the tesla! Slightly jealous. I'd own one for daily driving if funds allowed. Wicked cool car and fast. Not my choose for a track toy tho. Not yet at least.
Might have to try to find an excuse to test drive one tho

Since this thread was started, the P100D has come along and supposedly can post ~2.3 0-60 times which is essentially unbeatable by a street car with DOT legal tires, especially one with RWD. Yeah, the Demon does it but it requires the track configuration to do this.
A couple of things that should make us piston heads feel a bit better is that the Tesla models drop off in performance rapidly when you get into the triple digits.
They handle pretty poorly (5,000 lbs is going to be difficult to manage), they heatsoak (and go into limp-mode) pretty quickly on a road course and the stunning performance does start to ebb away as you get well into the battery's capacity.
The Tesla models are incredible...but at this point, they only beat comparably priced internal combustion performance cars in acceleration and energy efficiency.

I'm torn on this one.
I'm a model airplane pilot and I came on board with the hobby just as LiPo batteries and brushless motors were arriving on the scene. In the past 10 years, they've surpassed IC (nitro or gasoline usually) power systems in every way. They're cheaper, more reliable, longer lasting, cleaner, easier to set up and vastly quieter. I fly only electric and I have no urge to go back to IC.
When it comes to a car, the experience is the most critical thing and the living, breathing (literally), throbbing heart under the hood is part of that experience. No matter how fast, I'm not sure if an electric car will ever push my buttons in the same way.
I admire and respect what can be done fairly easily with electric cars but so far, they don't reach me on an emotional level.
