Hrm, interesting!

So Ford has nine *new* engines, right?

The nine engines are:
* 1.6-liter Fiesta I-4;
* 2.0-liter Focus DI I-4;
* 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4;
* 3.5-liter F-150 EcoBoost V-6;
* 3.7-liter Mustang V-6;
* 5.0-liter Mustang V-8;
* 5.4-liter Shelby GT 500 V-8;
* 6.2-liter Super Duty (gas);
* 6.7-liter Super Duty Power Stroke.

An aluminum block wouldn't make Ford call the GT500 engine "new". It's gonna be a longer stroke 5.0L with a blower!

Gonna be interesting to find out! It would take a factory TVS to make me tradeup though, not an Eaton M122 5.4L based on the 5.0. Cool either way!

It'll be a screamer, that's for sure -- but I agree with you on the trade-up part. Your 2010 GT500 is a bad-***, great-looking Mustang!

Thank you!! I wanted one since 2006 but wouldn't pay $30k over sticker. By the time that version came down to reality, I didn't want one anymore. 2010 came out reasonably priced and I was sold.

I don't blame you there, at all. There's really a fine line between, "yeah, I want to have this now so I'll shell out a few more bucks so I can experience the fun now," and the dealer just being like, "weeeeeeell, if you really want it, we'll give it to you at one hundred miiiiiiillion dollars," like some of them do. I really liked the look of the '07-'09 GT500 models, especially the seats, but I really think you made a better choice by grabbing the 2010 GT500. It just looks meaner and sleeker, and not to mention, the bugs are all worked out. You and bpmurr are the reasons why even after I tell myself I want Race Red, I still see y'all's cars and I go, "But Kona Blue is soooo awesome looking in sunlight..."

Hell, I imagine that color is awesome at night, too.

But on topic, the GT500 being powered by a long-stroke 5.0L with some boost, that'd be a hell of a monster for a Camaro Z/28 driver to see coming up fast in their mirrors. I just wonder if Ford will up the price when they do that, though. I don't think it'd be too fair of them to bump the price up too much from what it is now, do you?

I totally want to believe this is true. But the following sentence from the press release worries me:

•Ford will introduce nine new or upgraded engines and six new transmissions in North America this year as part of a five-year effort to overhaul its entire global powertrain portfolio, which totals 60 new powertrains

Perhaps the AL block 5.4 will be considered only an upgrade. We shall see.

I'd say the AL block is being counted there.

We'll see.

Yeah, It's an update of the Ford GT engine. Calling it "new" is a bit of a stretch, but I can live with it.

I don't think this is the 5.0 with a longer stroke. Where did this idea come from? Is there some other info around that I missed because I haven't heard any mention of stroking the 5.0.

The 3.7 isn't a "new" motor either. Just upgraded. I think it's just the modular 5.4 with the AL block and few tweaks for a bit more power, so they are just lumping it in with the "new" motors.

The 5.4 is so reliable, and still has so much potential, I can't see it being replaced quite so quickly.

Not officially to the general public. However, in the community it's a done deal.
