Hrm, interesting!
So Ford has nine *new* engines, right?
The nine engines are:
* 1.6-liter Fiesta I-4;
* 2.0-liter Focus DI I-4;
* 2.0-liter EcoBoost I-4;
* 3.5-liter F-150 EcoBoost V-6;
* 3.7-liter Mustang V-6;
* 5.0-liter Mustang V-8;
* 5.4-liter Shelby GT 500 V-8;
* 6.2-liter Super Duty (gas);
* 6.7-liter Super Duty Power Stroke.
An aluminum block wouldn't make Ford call the GT500 engine "new". It's gonna be a longer stroke 5.0L with a blower!

Thank you!! I wanted one since 2006 but wouldn't pay $30k over sticker. By the time that version came down to reality, I didn't want one anymore. 2010 came out reasonably priced and I was sold.

Hell, I imagine that color is awesome at night, too.
But on topic, the GT500 being powered by a long-stroke 5.0L with some boost, that'd be a hell of a monster for a Camaro Z/28 driver to see coming up fast in their mirrors. I just wonder if Ford will up the price when they do that, though. I don't think it'd be too fair of them to bump the price up too much from what it is now, do you?

I totally want to believe this is true. But the following sentence from the press release worries me:
•Ford will introduce nine new or upgraded engines and six new transmissions in North America this year as part of a five-year effort to overhaul its entire global powertrain portfolio, which totals 60 new powertrains
Perhaps the AL block 5.4 will be considered only an upgrade. We shall see.

I don't think this is the 5.0 with a longer stroke. Where did this idea come from? Is there some other info around that I missed because I haven't heard any mention of stroking the 5.0.
The 3.7 isn't a "new" motor either. Just upgraded. I think it's just the modular 5.4 with the AL block and few tweaks for a bit more power, so they are just lumping it in with the "new" motors.
The 5.4 is so reliable, and still has so much potential, I can't see it being replaced quite so quickly.
