My second vehicle : a 1998 4 Runner with four wheel drive has 300,000 miles with the original AC charge, alternator, rear end, and a transmission that has NEVER been rebuilt. 15,000 mile oil changes with Mobil 1 synthetic extended performance. Nothing consumer brainwashed here. 97-99 4 runners..... They're bulletproof.

As far as an oil change, I've always done every 5k. Call it crazy, a waste of money or being ignorant, but that's what I was taught and I stuck to it. I realize cars are being built differently now, but really, can it hurt? Better safe than sorry.
my bad. its some beamers. its in the bmw manuals that its recommended at 15k

I am sure it will be ha. It's just hard to break the habit. Also have issues when on a track, I will use my blinker to signal that I am passing someone that has given me a point by.

Well, Certainly you don't have to break habit if you don't feel comfortable doing so. Lol

Blackstone labs and other labs will perform an oil analysis for you. Get a pump to remove the sample from the dipstick tube and mail it in. You'll get your answer within a week, faster if they have your email address. I have a Shelby so I'm more meticulous with it than I am other vehicles. It's new (3500 mi) and I'm sampling at 1500 mile intervals. I changed it for the first time at 2500 because the life left according to the onboard indicator was at 15%. Blackstone confirmed this and also confirmed that the oil had less material in it than usual first change oil (something they credited to the build quality of the engine).

It's not impossible to be sure you're getting the most out of the oil you're using. It costs less to have the analysis than to change the oil/filter. If you're unsure, send it in and have it looked at.
