How often do you do oil Change?

Here is a question that is somewhat along the lines of the original question. Should I keep with the stock oil filter that come son the car, FL500S, or should I go with the FL820S which fits and is a little bigger? If I were to follow the manual I would do the FL500S but apparently the Boss oil cooler kit suggests the FL820S, which is on my car. I feel like I drive my car hard so I would rather change the oil early and waste money but get some piece of mind that the oil isn't shearing/wearing too much.

The 11 plus has 10k oil change intervals. Just in case some people forgot, this 2013 not 1983. Its the 21st century. Cars and engines have changed just a tad bit. The 3k oil change rule died a few decades back , however whatever ones mental illness may be feel free to change it as often as they like. Perhaps these are the same people that still cut the rotors when they need fixing.

The factory filter was quite small to my surprise. Either one would be ok, but I went with Royal Purple. Amsoil filters are also good, you can find a lot of threads on this regarding construction, filtration media, etc. Just never, ever buy Fram.

Define your definition of driving your car hard. How are you driving your car hard?

I'm going to change mine every 500 miles. I'm going to take it out of my stang and put it in my other car and the oil from my other car I will put into the stang

I change factory oil and filter at 500 miles, then at 5000 and every 5000 there after and always change filter at the same time. Easy to remember and better than manufactures recommendations.

VW recommends 10,000 on most of it's new cars, where did you get that number? I have a 2013 GTI, so I'm just wondering.

As far as an oil change, I've always done every 5k. Call it crazy, a waste of money or being ignorant, but that's what I was taught and I stuck to it. I realize cars are being built differently now, but really, can it hurt? Better safe than sorry.

I think maybe ELKK's post would vie for the most significant,as everyone knows,even with all the technological and mechanical advances,it's still just oil that lubricates metal,and over time loses it's viscosity and therefore it's lubricating ability. Considering the relatively small cost and ease of execution,coupled with the ease of remembering 5-10-15-20 you get the picture,the 5K interval has worked for us way back when evryone changed at 3K. I run about 8 runs every time i hit the strip. (1 time every 1-2 months). Still change my oil around 5k

Oil has changed alot in the last 10 years and so has marketing. It's sort of a blend in the middle that works best. I have always done 5000 miles with filter and oil change each time. Remember Ford gets dinged on cost of ownership points in the reviews if they recommend changing the oil every 5,000 miles. They are playing the game along with everyone else of making sure the car lives past 60,000 mile time frame and not getting dinged for high maintenance costs. They don't care if the car lasts you 20 years and 200,000 + miles. If you do then don't be cheap and change at 5,000.

Changing the oil within the manufacturers specified interval is totally fine. Plenty of high mileage motors out there doing just fine on this type of schedule. 90K on my Lincoln factory specified changes no issues and motor is clean. If you want to run extended drains use an oil analysis. if you want to throw out good oil imo nobody should judge you, if that is how you care for your motor your choice but they should not tell the others who don't they are wrong for following recommended drains.

I certainly wouldn't consider few days a year running it hard my good sir. Except maybe NASCAR drivers I can't think of another profession that runs their cars harder than mine and we only change our oil and filter every 5 k. We run our agency vehicles ***** to the wall almost 30k year and no sludge build up. Non synthetic oil at that by the way. However , if you feel better about changing it at 3 k then have at it . Lol. Reality , no need to do so and just throwing away great oil life left. No way your running your car that hard, or 99% of the members here neither am I on my pony , so 7500k intervals for me.
