How much labor to install headers?
Title says it all. I'm thinking about the Brenspeed stage 2 which includes kooks headers. Assuming I'm hiring it out, how many labor hours should I expect to pay a competent exhaust shop???

Not sure on the new 5.0's but on the 4.6's I think you could assume 3-5 hrs. However on the 5.0's I think it is supposed to be easier to install them than on the 3v's.

My local mustang mechanic charges typically 250-300 cash for longtube install. It would probably be in the area of 400-600 to9 get them installed at an exhaust shop.
Its not a quick task from what i hear

I know that rated hours on labor are usually exaggerated but 8 hours really seems to be stretched too much.

After having installed headers on a 4.6L by myself with only jack stands and normal garage tools, I could see where ~10 hours would be about right LOL....

Been there, done that. Not looking forward to it ever again. But all in all it worked and I learned a lot about my car. Gave me the confidence to do the blower install myself.

Unless it was on an old pick-up truck with plenty of room under the hood, I'll never install another set of headers. Done it quite a few times in my day, and at this point in life I'd rather have a colonoscopy than put headers on a late model car.

Same here... headers on a V - slant are the worst.
But I may put some in my S6 in my F150 cause the iron manifold is warped at the donut. That engine compartment is so roomy, I think I could fit! LOL

I've only ever installed LT's on a SN95 car, and that was a b!tch. The only real way to do it was to drop the K-member. I can only assume you are looking at the same procedure on the new cars. Either way if a shop is quoting 4-6 hours, that sounds about right for a pro. For a novice in the driveway on jackstands, figure 10 hours.

Thanks for all the input guys. Seems like pretty much no one has done a 2011 install. Maybe, I'll e-mail Kooks and see what they have to say.

Please post back with what you find out Eric.
I'd be interested to know if the K-member has to be dropped or if the engine has to be lifted from a DIY standpoint.
The Kooks look a little more floor-install friendly due to being shorter than the SW or ARH offerings.
