I also thought cars were built in VIN sequence. In researching some window stickers from Ford services website I see that built dates do not match will VIN sequence numbers - see table below.

If the data is correct then how are the VIN tags installed?

 

The Vin number is usually assigned weeks before the car is actually built.
Mine was assigned 3 weeks before the build date.
Any hold or problem on anything will push the build date out.

 

Yep the VIN's are assigned in order but by the time the cars are built several weeks later they go in order of assembly line constraints.
For the most part they end up close to in order but not exactly.
