Not sure where you live Big Poppa but if it's anywhere up north you will probably be wishing you still had that hot shifter come February. Maybe this explains why Porsche owners wear driving gloves...
Yes, I burned myself a week ago when I test drove mine. 
I got Limo tint in the back window, and now I can't hardly see out of it, but it's cool enough to grab the shifter without fear!

Mine sat in the 100+ today all day with the top down. So when I got in it to leave work, yeah, it hurt, but it was still glorious! Eventually my hand skin when numb and I didn't worry about it. Either that or it finally cooled off a little.
I found a leatherette boot from an old lens cover that works great. Both in the summer and when that Bullitt shifter is freezing cold in that other season.
I've read where some guys used a driver sock. But I'm not a duffer so I don't know about those...
Be careful not to use anything that takes the ink out of the shift pattern or you'll need a Sharpie for touch ups.
