Hood Struts: MMD or Redline Tuning?

Hi all! I'm looking at hood struts. The MMD from American Racing look like you have to undo the hood bolts to get them on but the whole setup appears a bit sturdier than the Redline Tuning struts from CJ Pony. The Redlines use an existing hole in the hood so you don't have to undo anything.

The MMD, I would definitely need the help of another person, plus I think I run the risk of misaligning the hood. The Redline is definitely the easier one to install but is using that one hole enough?

I'd appreciate your opinions. Thanks!

You will be very happy with the fit & design of our unit.

What can I say! Great Great Product...... Been looking the last year and came across the Steeda Struts. Comparing them to others, they are the best buy. The material is like it say's and the best part is... Its made in America. Installing was too easy, if your a beginner this is the product for you. I already have a few Steeda products on my 2006 Mustang GT, and all is a plus. I will continue with future Steeda products. Thanks Steeda - See more at: http://www.steeda.com/steeda-mustang....eWDQZQVQ.dpuf
Best Regards,

TJ

I have the MMD ones and I am very happy with them. I did need the help of a friend, but we were done in about an hour. There was a little bit of maneuvering with the hood alignment, but I was able to get in perfect. They are very study - I have had them on for about 6-7 months.

I've had the Redline quicklift plus hood struts on the car for 1 year 8 months with zero issues, 15 minutes per side to install. Opens smoothly each and every time. IMHO they look much "cleaner" than the others.

Hey 14,

Finally ready to get rid of that ugly prop rod? I know the feeling!

I run the MMD Bolt On Hood Strut Kit on my personal 2014 GT and absolutely love them!

For the price, ease of install, durability, and customer service you get with the MMD unit, they are hard to beat!

Check out what some of our customers are saying about them:

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions!

I have Redline. Works good. What drove me to Redline is that the attachment of the strut to the hood is more towards the middle. So when there is a lot of wind, the hood will not flex that much. Also the hood doesn't have to be unbolted, in any way. So no issues with alignment (with my luck, I would probably mess that up).

Same here, I didn't want to unbolt my hood.

I had the same concerns. I had Tein struts on my RSX which required the removal of the hood bolts. Getting it realigned was a B. Sure you can do it and probably get it perfect again. But why bother? I went with redline bc it was fast and simple and the hood stayed attached the whole time.

Redline here as well, been on for 3 yrs with no concerns. I do not like the extra brace that you have to use with the other brands.

Thanks for your input. I'm tending towards the Redline or Steeda version (because its made in USA). In order for me to install it, it looks like I'll have to remove and re mount that big bulbous thing coming out of the air box and attach it from below so as not to get in the way of the strut pin. (this is the drivers side) It doesn't look like there's a neat way of doing it. How did you do yours? I was thinking just zip tying it.

ps: what exactly is that thing? is it some sort of sound symposer because it goes into the firewall?

Thanks again!

Redline makes a video for install and I'm sure steedas would be the same. You move it below the the piece of metal and use the same bolt to hold it.
