It's not simply about having a strut strong enough to hold the hood, it's about having a hood that's designed and engineered to be held with a strut.
If I am not mistaken the 2013 & 2014 GT has a aluminum Hood, not sure about the 2012, so they are light enough not to cause any stress.

The '12 has an aluminum hood. I used the Steeda strut kit and love it. So nice to pop the hood and flip it up and walk away. I hated the prop rod. Scratched the rad cover and looks plain ugly at shows.

All years, from at least 2010 had aluminum hoods.

It's a non-issue as far as the struts are concerned.

Get the discount code and order them from Late Model Restoration. It'll be a little cheaper than ordering them directly from Redline.

I like the struts and the idea of having them but my hood does not spend very much time in the up position so I doubt I'll be getting any soon.

Looks like there are a few good sets out there. Redlines seem kinda long, but seem to be well liked. All I know is my Roush setup is very nice. Like them very much. Would not want to be without them. Boo to the prop rod...

2005+*

See all the 2005+ owners complaining about the bubbling paint issues...

Done! and installed. The prop rod is hanging on the garage wall.

My hood is up every weekend for fluid checks and washing/detailing. I love not seeing that ugly prop rod just laying there so mine are money well spent.

I know it's a heck of a lot easier to wipe off a little bit of dust and dirt more frequently then trying to wipe off a lot of dirt every once in a while.

I have used Redline before and have really liked them. I'm planning a set for the '14 as soon as taxes come in.

My daily driver is a 2000 Honda Accord and it comes with hood struts.

Granted, it only came on the EX version which is the premium model with V-6 engine.

I had trunk struts on the hatch of an '86 5.0 liter Fox body. The problem with these struts is that after maybe 10 years, you lose hydraulic pressure. Even the ones on my Honda drop the hood if it's windy, so I gotta watch my head.
