Homelink Range

Before I got this car I used a standard remote to open my door and I could usually open it from the road, around 100'. With homelink it doesn't work until I'm about 15-20' away.

What kind of range are you guys getting with your homelink visors?

That is correct... Homelink units only work about 15-20 ft away. That is how mine operates. To have a longer range you have to use the remote that comes with the garage door system. Both my Mustang and new Focus have the Homelink units.

No way, mine works from 30/40 yards and even farther if I tilt the visor down a couple inches.

I bought one off of Ebay, removed it from the Dodge visor, then installed it above the mini overhead console (has the map lights and motion sensing security). Total cost was $28.00 (included shipping). The module itself is tucked up in the headliner, with a tiny push button type switch installed to the ground wire of the homelink module. I did this because my 2011 did not have the homelink option in the visor, and it was a whole lot cheaper to install a push button switch in the overhead console. There's a link on this site on how to install this setup for those that do not have this from the factory, and don't want to spend the cash to buy the visors with it.

Anyhow, mine will open the garage door from about a hundred yards most of the time, and sometimes I have to be within 30 yeards. I guess it's all about line of sight, signal blockage, and how happy the garage door gods are that day.

That's what I thought, but my mom's Crossfire has lots more range than mine.

And yes most of the time I do flip the visor down first. If I'm lucky I won't have to sit and wait on my garage to open.

I think that's what most of the factors are with the homelink. Those and I'm sure humidity plays a big role in reception too. It probably doesn't help that my garage doesn't face the road.

I get a mix. Most of the time it'll work from the road which is about 100-120 feet. But every once in a while it just won't work until I'm almost already in the garage.

I get a lot of range from both the Mustang and my wife's MKZ. We can hit the button at the corner and the garage will open (about 3 houses away). It has more range than the remote that came with the garage door opener.

I am thinking my range might actually be slightly more.. I can pull up to in front of the house before I pull into the driveway and activate the garage door but it still is not anywhere near 100FT.

Have you tried messing with the antenna on the garage door opener?
