Got into an accident today, 2012 mustang GT

Hi, this morning I got into an accident in my mustang. I was backing out of my driveway when my father's car suddenly pulled in. His car was stopped and I backed into him at about 8mph more or less. The rear sonar doesn't work anymore. When I put my car into reverse it no longer beeps when an object approaches. The lower black bumper has a small crack in it. The upper bumper has a big dent but I think the mechanic can heat it up and push it back out. The metal part of the trunk that extends down is bent a little bit. Maybe they can bend it back out. The lights all still work but the outside plastic is cracked. My insurance doesn't cover this because i don't have full coverage. According to the pictures is anything else messed up? Please let me know what I have to do to repair this at a low cost. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I don't have a lot of money right now.

First off, I'd immediately pull the bumper cover off and pop it out.

Doesn't sound like the reverse sensors were working in the first place. And why the h*ll were you backing out of a driveway at 8mph?!

the reverse sensors were working. Thing is it always beeps when I'm backing out of the drive way because I'm very close to the wall and plants. Maybe it wasn't 8mph, but the impact was probably identical to 8mph because i gassed it a little, not a lot.

Sucks to see that happen!

If you're lucky, it'll just be a new bumper cover, new tail light lens, and the plastic molding behind the cover. Next guesses are the reverse sensors are either broken or disconnected. You'll really know once you start taking it apart to see.

I had mine hit in the rear a few weeks ago. Mine was less damage but the estimate included trunk, bumper, and diffuser came to 2992.00.

It's impossible to see what else was damaged until you get the damaged parts off.

0) Take the bumper cover off and pop the dent out (it's just plastic, so this should be easy), but if the bolt holes were ripped out, it's not salvageable.

2) You definitely need a new light.

3) The decklid can probably be repaired, but it might be cheaper to get one in the salvage yard.

How do you have such a new car WITHOUT full coverage? Is it paid off? Most auto loans come with a requirement for the lendee to carry full coverage.

Exactly why do you not have full coverage on a '12 Mustang? Saving a few bucks a month doesn't really pay off, as you can now see. If having full coverage on your car puts you over budget then maybe you don't really need a Mustang.

Ok well I am not going to mention the insurance issue but will address the bumper. I backed into our bike trailer and dented our expedition body - similar type of plasticky material as it appears your bumper is (smaller dent) - and it kinda separated from grey bumper too like yours.

Anyways - I took a large crowbar we had LARGE and "hooked" between the two bumpers where the hole was and worked it around and bent it back (pushed it) from the inside back out. Worked like a charm. You can still see the distress marks from the bent plastic but at least it's not a dent anymore. Essentially find a way to get something up behind the bumper inside and pop it out. Our sensors went out too for a couple of days. It some I fixed this and checked the connection they started working again.

Anyways my 0.02 worth of a possible home repair for part of it. (FYI my husband laughed his a$$ off when he saw me and I just rolled my eyes and proved him not as creative as me!)

I would expect damage to the bumper material under the cover. If not repaired properly, it will just be worse next time it happens.

My '11 has been paid in full for a long time and I still carry full coverage......even on my '93 Bronco.....just good sense in my book.
