HID replacement

How difficult is it to replace the stock D3S with a higher Kelvin bulb like 8000k?

Replacing the bulbs ought to be pretty easy. Removing the hammer from your face that a motorist on the other side of the road put there might be more difficult. Please don't put lights that blue in there. All you do is blind oncoming drivers, and you get less usable light output.

8000k bulbs are actually dimmer than the stock 4300k bulbs.

I have the RetroSolutions 35w 5000k HIDs. I wish I hadn't done them

They are very bright.. but mostly due to the glare

Are your HID's capped? Unlike the uncapped Stangmods HID kit I had on my 2007 Mustang GT, my capped 55W Retro Solutions HID's have virtually no glare and I don't think I've had one person flash their high beams at me. I think it would be easier to count how many times I didn't have someone flash their lights at me with the Stangmods HID kit I utilized in my 2007.

On a side note, though, literally just a few minutes ago, I had an issue where my driver's side HID headlight wouldn't work. I turned my headlights on-and-off a couple times, and nothing. Out of ideas, I then restarted my car, turned the headlight **** and the headlights fired up with no problems. I've never noticed an issue such as this with the Retro Solutions kit (I had this happen a few times with the Stangmods HID kit). Does this sound like a ballast issue? When I got home, as a test, I turned my headlights on-and-off several times and the lights fired up perfectly each time. I guess I'll just keep an eye on them and utilize Retro Solutions' lifetime warranty if this issue persists.

Yes I ordered them with the capping service

The problem is the lights are too far wide to the sides, and that's where it's especially bright. On a dark street the edges are the brightest because of the glare reflection from the stock housing, and it's basically perpendicular to where your lights should be. Because of that, even when the other driver has driven nearly past me, it will still blind them

I had the same thing happen with my stang mod kit this past week. I switched the ballast from driver to passenger side and the problem did not move to the opposite side. I replaced the bulb and knock on wood no issue for 2 days. Seemed like it wouldn't work when the car sat overnight. I'd try moving the ballast first

If you have factory HIDs... they're in a projector (D3S) housing already.. There shouldn't be any 'glare' unless you've aimed them too high or driving w/ your highbeams on....

8K probably won't net you any gains in color or output in a projector....

Edit: To answer your question... It's simple... buy the replacement bulb and replace it in the housing. no special mods needed.
