Heavy Driveline vibration

Heavy Driveline vibration
This morning there was a huge driveline vibration, pulsating like antilock brakes, when I took off really fast from dead stop while taking a hard 90 degree turn. It was as if the Torsen rear end and Traction control were fighting each to prevent slipping. It shook the car.
What else could it have been?

Traction and stability usually don't cause huge vibration. Was it low frequency, like one or two vibrations per second while you were heavy on the throttle? If so, it could have been rear axle wheel hop, which is to be expected on high power rear wheel drives.

No, it was not wheel hop. I shifted and it kept doing it until I let off the gas. I tried to make it do it again, but it wouldn't. It seems like drivetrain vibration

Hmm, no idea then. I have the Track Pack with the Torsen as well, but the only major rattle or vibration I've experienced (with many other vehicles too) was wheel hop.

If you can't get it to do it again, don't lose sleep over it. Try and replicate it a few more times. If it doesn't happen again, just forget about it. Sounds like something in the rear end like maybe the limited slip may have gotten hung up.

When I let off of the gas, it stopped it instantly never to return. I think it could have been wheel hop, because it is not the driveshaft. I got on it hard the rest of the way to work and on the way home and nothing. Just trying to analyze it, by me taking a hard right from a stand still, going uphill, flooring it and wheels spinning ,...the left wheel was coming around faster then the right, it could have been the combo of things of Traction Control trying hard to apply the brakes pulsating and the Torsen rear end trying not to slip. So...no sleep will get lost. thanks for the reply

I know what you mean about cold, but it was not nipple out. But definitely the shifter does not like the cold. Since I just got it in September, it hasn't been thru cold yet. But it will tomorrow. It is supposed to get 38 here in Houston.

Cold is not our friend. It was 23 here in Michigan this morning. It's too early for that $%&#!

I think you should still have your Ford Dealer check it out and make sure all is good. PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number so I can get this escalated for you if needed.

Thanks very much for responding. I can see you are here for Mustang owners and I'm sure all Ford owners. I found some very good YouTube videos of Mustang wheel hop and that HAS to be what it was. So it must have been operator error on takeoff. I will have to get better on screaming launches, which this was because cars were coming fast.
If this happens again or seems to be a problem I will get back in touch with you. I know wheel hop will wear out suspension parts quickly, as well as tires.
Thanks,
Dean

I appreciate the customer service Deysha, but this seems like a once in a blue moon type problem and doesn't throw any codes. I'll pass on your offer. Thanks!

Yeah, no offense to Deysha, but I first reported this problem to Ford on my car in 2011 and have never had it fixed. I've heard of several other Mustang owners having the same problem as well. Unfortunately since it's random and not reproducible on demand dealerships won't be much help because Ford won't cover any repair work.
At another Mustang forum one member went so far as to have his Ford dealership attach a black box device and record his traction control system. It was only after getting the glitch recorded was anyone willing to touch it. In his case they replaced the ABS Control Module and that corrected the problem.

However, even after recording the glitch and resolving the problem on his car Ford has been unwilling to admit a larger problem exists and apply the same fix to other cars with the same problem. Basically, if they can't reproduce it and your dealer isn't willing to install one of their black box recorders then it's not going to be fixed unless you pay for and install a new ABS Control Module yourself.
But, at least now you know where the problem really is. The ABS Control Module.

Ruby I had the same exact issue happen last night. There was definitely no wheel hop - I've had the car for a year, I can tell when there's hop.
I was coming off a stop light turning left and it happened. I pulled over and couldn't figure out wtf happened so I merged onto the highway. I get up to 60mph and it happens again. I pulled over, turned the car off/on, and it hasn't happened since.
Pretty sure there's a programming issue but this is the first time I've had this happen in 16,000 miles and there were no error codes. Dealer won't care, but I'm taking it in soon
