Having an OEM wheel chromed

Stripes first, but at some point I want chrome wheels for my black GT 'vert. Hey, my name ends in a vowel...it's in my DNA to like shiny things!!!

Anyway, I have 19" wheels and I haven't found a whole lot of chrome choices in my size.

I really like my factory wheels and was wondering about the feasibility of having them stripped and chromed? Has anyone gone this route?

Just thinking out loud.....

Tom

That will get expensive!! Chroming parts is a nasty process (many environmental regulations too) that requires a lot of labor. Any time my car collector friend gets a bumper or chrome strip repaired it runs him hundreds of dollars. 4 wheels would be really high. I have factory chrome wheels on my T/A and I figured some day I would need to replace them, not lay out out $1,000+ to refinish. Not only that, it has to be done right so the chrome won't flake or pit in a few years time. Just refinishing a regular aluminum wheel ran me $160 the last time I needed one done on another car, and that was about 5 years ago. It's probably higher now. If your heart is set on chrome, just find a set on the aftermarket list. There must be something out there that will appeal to you. Maybe your current Mustang wheels will 'grow' on you. I love mine (polished aluminum).

Oh yeah babe, that will be cost prohibitive. Like my friend NC07GTCS says, just re-chroming small parts is expensive. I know this from experience. Head over to some of the aftermarket web sites. I'm fairly sure you can find some that you like, and it will be much cheaper.

Had our wheels on the Shelby chromed this winter. Shipping cost more than the chrome itself. They turned out nice and really sets the car off. I would recommend it if your seriously considering it.
