GT Road Trip Day 1 impressions
Driving from Las Vegas for San Jose for Easter...
Day one - beautiful AM departure from Vegas... light traffic let me vary the speed without pissing off the natives... First time to settle in and play with the car and the included toys for an extended time...
The previously reported apparent front speaker drop out was caused by the HD radio losing the HD signal and then regaining it... Turn HD off unless there is a good signal, and problem fixed... whew....
Got on I-15, doing 70 ish - stable, responsive, comfortable, quiet, tight - 3.73s spin 2100 engine RPM at 70 MPH. A noticeable amount of tire noise on rough roads... easily covered by the stereo.
Crosswind correcting steering got a workout... jury is still out... didn't focus on how well it worked, only that I could sense it was on. Nothing distracting or weird yet.
NAV functions are becoming more intuitive - lotsa kewl features, but gotta divide attention with the road and traffic, or it could get ugly. Learning the voice commands is critical, and pretty easy... hardest part is to wait for the Nav unit to reply.
SYNC painlessly connected with my Blackberry Storm, downloaded phone book and hooked up USB for charging. Did a hands free test call... perfect.
The NAV system (gonna call mine Sally) is VERY patient... Decided to stop at Barstow to grab lunch, and Sally updated the route (silently), and patiently gave the next direction to get back on course (without adding "you pinhead"). Ended up REALLY confusing her with a couple of direction reversals in a two block stretch to get food, then gas, then turn back to the west, and she seemed to freeze... I reset the route from the current location, and she was good to go...
Leaving Barstow for Bakersfield, highway 58 narrows to a single lane each way. There was an 18 wheeler about a mile ahead, so pushed the pedal down to get past him.... Oh, yes! - chest pushing acceleration not unlike takeoff in a small jet.... Not like the explosive beat down of an original 1963 GTO, but simply nonstop and IMPRESSIVE...
Mash down the go-pedal, and it's like the coal stokers down in the boiler room are fed a massive dose of steroids.... the push just keeps on coming... ZOW!!! The V8 noise fills the cabin and the car remains stable and solid... COOL!!!
As the first day's trip came to an end in Fresno, was feeling like the cowboy who broke his horse for the first time... we were now on speaking terms, but there is more to learn...

Now, a year LATER, when the 1964 Pontiac GTO debuted, it might have had more of an explosive beat down...

Glad you had a nice trip! I LOVE road trips, especially in cool cars. I drove 1,000 miles to STL in my 370Z only to drive 1,000 miles back in my Mustang. It was a blast. I'm kind of kicking myself in the butt for not flying out to Portland last year to drive 2,800 miles home in a 1995 Volvo 850 T5-R! That would have been a blast as long as it didn't break down on me!

One of the best times I've had recently was when my son & I (just the 2 of us) went on a road trip of about 2500 miles across multiple states to visit a few colleges he was interested in. Didn't go in a Mustang, but it was a good car for the trip (my former car: 2006 Accord V6 EX-L, gently modded).
I am looking forward to making a trip in the 'Stang at some point with my wife. OP, I am glad you got to log a few good miles with your GT right after buying it. Discovering all the cool features about your new car is so fun!

My gang was a beer n pizza mob cruising and hanging out at the drive in on Friday nights (think "American Graffiti" )... Chevys, Mopars, Vettes and GTOs - never saw a Ferrari till I was in college, and have yet to drive one...
