So I'm getting into it. Got the intake off and was vacuuming around the intake ports of the head and the valley under the intake. My thumb nudged the driver side knock sensor and the plug popped off. Wouldn't this throw a CEL if it weren't plugged in?

Alright guys I know this is going slow, but I've been pretty busy. Got everything off except the head and I'm a bit concerned as to how I'm going to get the chain off the cam gear. Got the oil pan off today and the piston was about 3/4 of the way up and I don't see any scores in the cylinder wall. I could see some vertical lines but they didn't appear to be anything serious. Gonna try to get the head off tomorrow. The oil pan was a bit more than I expected, but a few lessons learned. The engine support bar is a valuable tool for this job.

Yes I have a vortech

I'm not blaming the tune, it's been the same for the 27k miles I've had the vortech on.
Most likely attributed to the leaky coolant reservoir that comes with the vortech kit. Thought I had it fixed, but it was still leaking and probably got low or air into the cooling passage in the head.
It took to post 18 to get this important nugget of information.

Well my motor is still in the car so it's not quite that simple.

I thought there was a slight chance I could get the cam gear off with out removing the supercharger, but that is not the case. I need about a 1/2 in more clearance to get the timing gear off. So I removed the supercharger and I won't be putting it back on. Vortech is going up for sale and the car is getting traded in on a 16 as soon as I'm done. But now I have to move so there's no telling how long that will be... Sorry about no pics, if I ever get the piston out there will be pics.

Get a '16 Camaro. The S550 Mustang is slow and boring compared to it

I'm a big fan of the new camaro, but I can get a mustang and a Whipple for the same price.

You can pick up a low mileage 13-14 ZL1 for upper 30s low 40s.

I know it's been a while, sorry. Took the piston out and couldn't see the problem until I tried to remove the ring and part of the piston came out with it.

Hone, new piston, sell to the dealership. Contemplating a 16 mustang and a Whipple, not completely sure yet. At least I know how to work on them now. Already sold the vortech so she's definitely gone.
