My turn to be laughed at. It's cold in the mornings, I want some driving gloves to cut the chill a bit and make me look like Dexter or a mysterious Hollywood stuntman and mechanic.

Now the mobster driving the Charger in the famous "Bullitt" chase scene looked kinda cool, but they didn't seem to help him in the end.

I might try a pair myself, if I could find some that didn't clash with my bib overalls.

On my Harley, I wear gloves all the time. The type just depend on the weather.

One of the pairs of driving gloves I have has never been worn, and were handed out by some dealers to people who purchased Mustangs in the 60's. They are part of the display I set up at car shows with my '66.

As to if they provide more grip in modern cars then without, yes, they do. Do some research and find a good pair with the right leather. It provides a different driving experience. You can get a pair of $50 gloves that qualify for go kart racing. Some people like to have a bit of time to get out of the car(t) when there is a fire. You don't need to get gloves gloves.

If you turn the steering wheel in a competitive environment (road racing, auto-crossing), gloves can help you.

Only reason driving gloves were popular was with smooth hard wheels. Your hand would sweat and that would make them slick. With covered wheels this isn't a problem, more of a fashion statement????? I think you will look like a tool and more of a tool if your wearing golf gloves. Major reason why you wear gloves on a track is for fire protection.

I always wear motorcycle gloves when riding my motorcycle (obviously), and when I go go-karting but haven't used them when driving... But if I raced, I'd wear them... Your hands can get slippery/sweaty, which is less than ideal when using the steering wheel in spirited driving situations...

I have to drive with my windows down or I'll go deaf. In the winter, I need gloves - that steering wheel can get pretty **** cold.
