Glass roof tint question
Glass roof tint question
I don't own a glass roof, but was kind of curious... Has anyone had it tinted with really dark tint...like 5% limo tint? Did the glass roof lose its whole appeal when tinted so dark? Just a random question.
Glass roof tint question
I live in the desert, that's why I didn't get the glass roof. if I did, I'd tint it but not dark.
I'd also consider the Llumar Air Blue tint which is basically clear and filters over 90% of UV.

The glass roof (in my '14, anyway) blocks over 90% of UV (I work in optics, and did a reading with one of our UV meters). There is a thermal coating in the glass that is supposed to block the majority of heat as well.
As far as the visible tint, it is already fairly dark (in fact, if anything I wish it were lighter). Darker than the factory tint on the side windows for sure. I think Saleen had a glass top that would go from clear to frosted by flipping a switch (I sent them an email asking for more info- like did they sell just the glass- but never received a response).
For me, the glass roof has definitely been worth the $2,000... everyone who gets in the car eventually comments on it.

If it were me I'd get it tinted 5% and then have that AirBlue tint layered onto it. No UV, more privacy, much less heat (live in south Texas) and plus o a white car it would appear I have a gloss black painted roof but it's see through!!
Honestly if I got the glass roof id wait till it rains like wild and just go sit in the car watching the rain fall. That would be awesome.

Still waiting to see a pic from anybody who has tinted it. I wonder if you would really be able to see through it all that much
Watching the rain hit the glass roof is pretty cool. With my car being Sterling Gray, most people don't notice the roof from the outside. Then they get in the car, look up and say "That's the biggest sunroof I've ever seen!" That's when I tell them the roof doesn't open, so technically its just a glass roof.
As for the heat, the glass doesn't let in any more heat than the metal roof does (we also have thermal scanners at work, and I compared my readings with those from a coworker's '13 on a 100+ degree Texas day- the interior temperature on the cars was within 2 degrees of each other- and I didn't even have my sunscreen closed).
Right after I placed the order for my '14, I visited another dealer who had a '13 Boss 302 for sale. He was trying to tell me the glass roof would superheat the car and blah, blah, blah and I should cancel my order and purchase their '13 (both dealerships were owned by the same company). I did a little research, and found the glass roof blocks the heat extremely well (and that's been my experience through two Texas summers).

When I first got my car I took it to the tint shop to have the windows done and I inquired about doing the roof. The salesman said yes and I was gonna get matching. Then when the time came the installer refused it do it. He said that the glass being such a large flat surface, that if it were tinted and exposed to south texas sun on a really hot day it might, and he stressed might, break the glass. Well I didn't want to be on the hook for what would probably be a $3000+ repair just because I might want my roof to match my windows.
Now I'm glad I didn't do it. I think it's great the way it is from the inside and the outside.

My 2009 45th anniversary edition has the glass roof top. I will say though, I do notice a difference when it is hot outside and I have the sliding shade open. It does get a little warmer inside the car. I do love having it! My daughter likes to watch the rain drops and tries to count them. ;-) To answer your question, I have never thought about tinting it.
