well its first time i hear that automatics take skills to run a 1/4 . you know your launch RPMs, hold the brake, rev it up, take off and floor it. But thats just me, i only took manuals to the track and feel bored driving automatics.

Yep...If I ONLY wanted a drag dar, there's no doubt in my mind, I would have started with an automatic.

I thoroughly enjoy my car on curvy back roads and I'd challenge any other stock/auto 11-13 Mustang on any section of curvy road (where more than one gear is needed), any time. The auto's sluggish downshifts and mushy upshifts are a major hinderence everywhere other than the drag strip.

FWIW, I may be a lucky one but my MT-82 has been superb. Good shift feel, precise gates, excellent gear spacing. It's an ejoyable gearbox to row.

I dig any V8 Mustang...but I have zero regrets even if I give up consistency in the 1/4 mile.

BTW, I rented a 2012 GT with an auto (like all rentals, right?), and I really loved it. I put 600 miles on it in 2 days. (road trip) The transmission behaved quite well under hard acceleration...but under any other driving condition, I found it to completely rob the car of the "high performance" feel that I love so much in my 6MT/BBP GT.

Still and awesome, A- car in my book...but the manual transmission makes the 5.0 Mustang GT into an A+ ride in my opinion.

Purely personal preference, of course.

I went to the track last weekend and my buddy with his Boss 302 and factory tires ran pretty consistent,
12. 66
12. 66
12. 67
12. 82
Etc etc.. Thats pretty good in my book
And that's why the Boss doesn't have an mt82. Boss's are sweet no doubt. But you're right it's all about preference. We all have our reasons why we choose one over the other.

I agree man. The auto does do better on twisties than you realize, but of course that's a manuals territory. That's a given. Just look at in car video of any sanctioned road race car, manuals . We all have stangs and in the end that's all that matters. It's just preference. I actually used to be a die hard manual guy.

The Boss does have an mt82 and mine is great. Notchy when cold, but she only takes a minute to warm up and after that. Smooth sailing!

Sorry that I had misinformation. I thought it was a tremec. Never thought ford would've cut corners on the boss.

The Getrag designed and built transmission is not cutting corners. There are a number of individuals with smooth MT82s and nothing beats it for comfort and everyday use.

Tremecs have their fair share of bad feedback in plenty of performance cars. I've only had a few cars in my lifetime and it seems you can only really pick 2 out of the 3: performance, cost, or reliability.

The Boss has 2/3 so far. I hoping the reliability part keeps going

My MT-82 seems to be a great transmission. Nice tight, short shifts. Feels very precise. Yea it has a quirk or two that is completely unnoticeable after learning this specific transmission's characteristics. No different than ANY OTHER manual transmission out there. People just need to learn how it behaves. I think it's a great fit for the Boss.

U guys arguing auto vs manual,...haha. In the words of espn Monday night football team "come on man!!!" I'm curious to know in all the professional racing leagues such as NASCAR, formula 1, so on and so on which type Of transmission is mostly used?

Well you were right about one thing: they didn't cut corners on the Boss. The MT-82 is a good transmission, works extremely well in the Boss, as others have noted.

Just about every review gushes over the shift action too.

Most every pro racing series uses some kind of clutch less manual transmission, other than NASCAR which still uses an old school four speed manual.

So let me understand this, the v6 mt82 has the same transmission as the Boss?

And it's no better or worse. Higher torque then the 5.0 and 3.7. Not too hard to figure out.

All 2011+ Mustangs have the same transmission, except the GT500 which uses a Tremec TR6060.
