German mag speculates on 2010 Mustang wagon

I think a "wagon" version of a Stang might be pretty cool. BMW did it with the Z3 Coupe, which, while not terribly popular when on the market -- people just didn't know what to make of it really -- has become a bit of a cult item now. A couple I know has one and it really is a very cool little car once you wrap your mind around it. The looks really grow on you too. MG also did something similar with the MBGT a long ways back, that looked pretty good too.
But if Ford returns to a more standard hatchback coupe, ala Fox-Stang, then a wagon might be a bit redundant. I'd love for Ford to do either as I'm a huge fan of having an fully opening back end. In a fastback coupe form, you can retain every bit of sleekness yet add the utility of a small station wagon, ala my Probe GT. And with good engineering, weight and rigidity need not take any big hits either, as my old Probe proves. Kind of having your cake and eating it too.
Makes buying one as a sole daily driver easier to justify to self and significant other too. "Look sweetie-dumplings-poo, I can carry all your petunias, throw pillows and granny's ottoman in the hatch..." as I lay some skunk stripes down the road on my way see the game with da boyz. Try fitting two people's worth of out-of-town weekend triathlon gear (two bikes included) in the trunk of a Stang as I can readily do with my Probe, which is lower and sleeker yet than a Stang.
As for lowering the hood, I imagine they could deftly angle it down a touch forward of the engine hard points to lessen the cliffside bluff of the current front end -- would probably help aerodynamics and lessen the 5,000,000 PSI pressure buildup under the Stang's hood at speed.

Another thing that would help that pressure buildup is the removal of the bottom splash gaurd. (Though this may effect lift at 140Mph and cause the car to lose control) My V6 stock never had any hood bouncing issues at speed. Now that I have the GT front bumper, complete with lower splash gaurd, it's bouncing all over the place.
I know I can adjust the stops to minimize this, but I just haven't had time.

What's new and interesting is that they say the next generation will have the 3.5L V6 from the Australian Falcon, good for 280HP, and a 400HP 4.6L V8. The Shelby GT500 seems to be part of the 2010+ line-up as well.

I've heard many times that Ford is going to put the 3.5L into the stang as soon as 2008 maybe. Only rumors thou. They are have rave reviews on the 3.5 so it makes sense. If they do drop a V6 with 260-275 Hp it will have to raise the V8 HP or the will lose part of that market. If you look around many people have opted for the 4.0 in the s197 due to its potential. I'd really like to see the Boss or 5.4L make an apperance in the stang....
i say don't do it for production, a concept for fun and to stir things up in the auto show circuit, maybe. if anything, i would rather see them use the current platform for a rwd lincoln or ford sedan.....
I dunno, I'd get a mustang SW if I had a family, it has the same appeal as the BMW or Mercedes SWs which I kinda like, If I were blissfully married with 2.5 kids a Mustang SW would definitely top the list.
I disagree with any enthusiasm towards this. I understand that some people have families and such that could use such a car, but the fact remains that it does NOT have to be a Mustang. There are several other cars out there suitable for groceries and large animals.
Development on this just wastes engineers who should be working on the coupe.

How about bringing back the Falcon - the FPV with a 9psi supercharged 5.4L quad-cam V8. 4-door RWD V8 sedan for the family, coupled with 450+ hp and a 6-speed ZF manual transmission.
