Although we're all in the same boat, the sync updates are totally non-existant for 2011 cars, i'm sure it's the same for 2012 as well. Horrible support from Ford AND Microsoft with this. If you're going to put technology in a car at least follow through with update support.

Support from both suck for the 2011 cars. Not impressed as I say with Ford whatsoever on this issue.

Hey everyone!

I can't speculate on timing for the next SYNC software update, but there is a map update available for 2011 models. Check the link below for more info:

There is no way i am spending $199 for a map update when the maps i have dont even show a highway that has been paved for 30 years. I know you probably dont have much control on that but Ford should do a better job when selecting a map provider....

I havent checked to see if the road is on the maps on my 2012 edge or not but it definitely isnt on my $44k Mustang Gt/CS convertible.....
Maybe they dont think we have paved roads here in alabama???

I doubt the 2013s have a newer update loaded if the 5.x is just getting out Can anyone with your 2013 check your version? I don't recall anyone mentioning it yet...shame that it probably comes with such old map data

I doubt it as the 5.x although available for purchase is in fact not being shipped until about the 18th April. However and a bummer also is the spec sheet says its database is Q2 11 which I guess is data up until end of second quater 2011!! Really what about the other 6 months and we are 4 months into 2012

It depends what they mean by quarter data... is it the release given to them during Q2 2011 or data accurate as of Q2 2011? That would make a mild difference. One of the things we do at my office is mapping (web based). We get the raw polygons and road data and do our magic on it. Usually takes a month or so from the stuff that I am familiar with to process it, fix errors (overlapping areas, usually due to rounding), and stuff like that...so if it is data through Q2 2011 that means they were probably received it for use mid to late Q3, then processing the stuff for Ford a month or two after that, then all of the QA and testing, etc...then made available for customers. That still has a couple month buffer in there (maybe Ford QA on each car/sync configuration?) but it would be reasonable for that dataset. Just a thought Not that the space between releases seems reasonable though...way too long!

How about the 2012s? Does it work for them as well?

Edit: WTF, the site shows nothing for 2012s. That's crap, as the 2012s shipped with the exact same revision of Nav data that the 2011s did. Any comment?

This thread just goes to show why the NAV feature in the Mustang is a joke. Yet so many people swear by getting it. Even the "new" maps are outdated the day you buy them and the price....well that's crazy in the world of Garmin lifetime maps and Google Maps.

The product summary form has a compatibility matrix that lists the 2010-2012 Mustang so I'd assume it is for 2012s too.

Why is it a joke? Because it isn't up to some arbitrary standard? Any sensible person knows navigation is only for reference and you still need to pay attention to road conditions and changes. A system such as factory based nav with no clear access can not be expected to be up to date - but nothing beats the integration and reliability of an OEM system.

I think what he's saying--and I agree--is that at least two other providers update their maps for free. Thus, not much point in paying for the nav if you also have to pay for an outdated map update when you can use a smartphone to do the very same thing and not be out thousands on the option. And in five years that nav will essentially be obsolete. Not a concern for people who buy the next best thing at the drop of a hat, but for those like myself who will hang onto the car for the unforeseen future it's a consideration. Thus, my GT500 will not have the nav in it. I'll settle for my phone.

How would nav be obsolete? Not very many New roads or houses being built in USA right now.

Has anyone else noticed that the old navi was 3.1X and the new one is 5.1X? Is this the same 3.1X version we've referred to for our Electronics Package head unit? Or just the navi software? Because otherwise, what new software features does 5.1X bring?
