Ford/Dealer people: Does updating my 2011 Stang "push back" my build date in queue?
Ford/Dealer people: Does updating my 2011 Stang "push back" my build date in queue?
I ordered my 2011 Stang a little more than two weeks ago and it's been "processing" ever since (called the 800 Ford number).
During the last two weeks I've updated my order about 3 times. One to change the color, another to add 3.31 axle, and a third to add a sexy glass roof. Does anyone know if updating my order "pushes me back" so it's like those two weeks never passed? I just got the glass roof added today.
I don't have a VIN or build date yet.

You wont have the VIN for a while. Im pretty sure they issue that when you enter production status.
You wont go to the back of the line but you may experience some slippage as Ford moves your car to another group with similar content (Ford trys to Group cars with similar options together when the booths are spraying those colors). My car slipped form 7161 to 7290 (Blend) when I added 3.55 Axle. That took about 2 days for approval and amounts to about 1/2 day of production.

Glass Roofs are actually fairly popular. I remember when they were first introduced Ford was a little surprised at the number of orders for them. I seem to recall one figure stating that roughly 1 in 10 Mustangs are ordered with the Glass Roof now, and remember, the first public 2011 Mustang sold world-wide had a glass roof.
Except for the fact I got saddle brown leather, I think my car is exactly the same as Stinger's mom's, at least in looks.
I was worried about the extra weight of the glass roof....but then I remembered I only weigh 167. So what's an extra 30 lbs gonna hurt? Still got the 3.31 rear axles.

They might be semi-popular for retail orders, but what about dealer stock? I went looking to find a glass top 2010 Mustang last December while in a big city. The dealerships had a lot of Mustangs, but I had to have them search inventory to find a dealership that had any, and the one they found only had 1 glass top out of about 30 Mustangs on the lot. Of course, it could be that they just happened to sell most of the glass top Mustangs earlier in the year, but I bet that's not the case. I bet most walk-in buyers won't want to pony up 2k for that particular option, and dealers don't order many. That, and I've never seen a glass top Mustang in the wild, though I don't see many Mustangs at all where I live. I'm just guessing here, though. I could be wrong.
I made a change, and it didn't seem to delay things any more than any other factor.
The dealer was pretty sure there would be no problem since we made the changes before the VIN was cut.

I still think they did it on purpose since they are short of decklids without the holes punched.
