First Issue with my 2011 GT

Has 1900 miles on it now. I was driving it around yesterday when I start smelling burning rubber, then squeaking, and a bang, as I lose one of the belts. Turns out it was the air conditioning belt. A Saturday afternoon is one of the worst times for something to go wrong because the service departments all close early. It's kind of funny because I was contemplating taking the car in for service because I noticed that when I turned the air conditioning on it was VERY loud. Could be the compressor failed/seized up on me. On the bright side: I'm up the equivalent of a few horsepower with the air conditioning delete, right?

Sorry to hear you are having an issue this early. Should be a quick fix assuming they can get a new compressor quickly. I'll assume it's the same unit used on previous stangs? Does anyone know for sure?

Did the 2011 5.0 go back to multiple belts instead of 1 belt that turns all the accessories?

It looks like the only thing not on the serpentine belt is the A/C compressor. So, two belts. This belt is on the inside of the serpentine belt, so they'll have to take the serpentine off to get the A/C belt on. I really don't think it's a straightforward belt failure... those things are meant to go for many more miles than I have on the car at this point.

Don, did you inspect the belt to see where it actually ruptured.... or you lost it on the side of the road ! I would ( if still in your posession) check where the belt breakage happened since this may well be a sign of a defective belt from the factory. Let us know what you find. Good luck.

Since you mention that the AC was very loud when it was on I'm gonna say that the AC compressor seized and snapped the belt.

That's exactly what I was thinking. I did inspect the belt, and it looked fine. Honestly though, the way these belts fail, it's hard to tell if it was defective.

Yeah I had an air pump do that years ago on my F150. Bearing siezed. So I cut it out, plugged all the hoses, and threw it away.

They use two belts but actually they are both serpentine belts. I dont think anyone uses V-Belts anymore.

Hope it's just an isolated case, a bit premature for the ac clutch to go.
