Dyno time and FRPP tune installed
#81
Nice thread...I'm torn on what to do with tuning..FRPP seems like a nice way to get a boost on the street and eliminate the skip shift. However...I'm worried about a cat back like Borla being too much for the PCM to handle with the FRPP tune. Where as I can get a custom tune with the catback and get more power...plus it would be safer right? Meaning it would be built for the mods on the car. The FRPP is meant for the drop in filter and all other parameters stock...or does a cat back from say borla or Corsa axle back plus xpipe not upset the PCM causing a lean condition?

Finally installed this today. It's been sitting on my work bench all winter. I was a nervous reck installing it but it was idiot proof.
Shifts are pretty much spot on and smooth.
Definitely pulls a little more down low.
And for some reason maybe it's just me the exhaust note is deeper ? This is probably in my head but my Roush axel backs sound even better now.
Getting the ford Racing x- pipe installed next week put it off 3 time already because of rain I'm scheduled for this Wednesday but guess what they are predicting rain again for Wednesday . I hate being **** about my car.
Anybody else take the plunge on this one ?

Still debating FRPP or not. If my dealer can install and get the 3 year warranty then I will probably go with them, but if not i think I'm going to lean more with Steeda.

Out of pure curiosity, what RPM did you pull to and what is your rev limiter set at?

You know..I may get flamed for this. Yet I see guys posting 380+rwhp numbers bone stock yet the cars are only trapping 111-113mph. I see E92 M3s (not starting a M3 vs. Mustang thread, just for comparison as this is what I know) with high flow cats and a tune rip off 118mph runs and these cars dyno'd in the high 360rwhp range. I find this perplexing.

Most M3s even with all the normally aspirated mods you can throw at them don't make it to 400rwhp, only 2 on E90post.com I have seen made it over, one at 402 and the other at 407rwhp. The 2 that have seen over 400rwhp have never taken their cars to the track, it would be interesting to see what they run.
The GT500's issues is traction..you have to baby shift this car or all you get is a ton of wheel spin. My good friend Mike who has a 08 GT500 that is darn near 600rwhp now has to baby his car into 2nd or 3rd or just massive wheel spin on the stock F1s.

Here's Drews car running a 11.88 @118.8mph, in this configuration I believe Drews car put down just under 380rwhp at 378rwhp. This was on a DynoDynamics Dyno.

No, the gt500 is 300lbs heavier then the GT\M3 but makes 100+ horsepower more. Traction is what your 60ft time and 1/4 time depend on. Once again the MPH is all weight and horsepower. The GT and M3 making the same horsepower should cross the traps at almost the same speed.

Is there any concern with how aggressive a Steeda or custom tune is compared to the FRPP tune? I'm considering a Borla Catback and Aem dry flow CAI plus say Hypertech tune or FRPP tune as I'm hearing horror stories from aggressive tunes putting the stang into a bad spot with false sensor reading over worked stock fuel injectors and so on. Plus some folks claim an oiled filter caused issues. However I've only personally seen that when the filter is cleaned and re oiled with too much oil. Stock oil is not over done but in any case I don't like messing with the oil so dry flow is how I roll. Had aem on my cobalt ss/sc and it was an animal with bolt ons tune injector and pulley drop. Never one issue on the CAI. I want this stang to keep if not increase it's TQ and then rip if not exceed what my cobalt could do on the top end. It only weighed 2990 lbs. But put 275 hp at the wheel. It feels faster up top but not down low than my current 2011 3.73 non brembo 5.0 manual. Might just be seat of the pants fooling me or perception with the stang being a little bigger.
