Dual-zone AC performance

Hey y'all,

So I just took my 14 GT with electronics package on a road trip. To put it mildly, I don't understand how the dual zone climate works. My wife is always hot so she has the AC cranked on her side (60-65). No matter how I set my side, I would still freeze. If I set mine too high (like 90) it just shuts off the AC on both sides.

How's yours work? Is mine broken or are my expectations unreasonable?

Can't say for sure, but I would assume there is only so much deviation you can have between temps. You're basically asking for your wife's side to run off the A/C, and yours to run off the heat, which I doubt it can do. I think both temps need to be based on utilization of heat or A/C, and within so many degrees of each other at that.

This is the first car I have had with dual-zones so I am not sure how typical our system is but I know it doesn't perform as I expected. My sense is that the left to right difference is not that great.

The other night, my fiancée's first ride, we drove with my side at 60, hers at 70. Worked fine.

How did the AC behave? Did you just put your hand to both vents and notice that one side was colder, or what?

Yep I was nice and cool, reached over to her side and it was warm...

I tried laserred's scenario (with the vents, pervs!) and the 60/70 was cold from both sides. 60/80 was warm/cold.

Anyone know more about how this works? Like where the temperature sensors are and what effect the outside or inside air have? Also, what does AUTO mode do, because even with it off the system attempts automatic climate control. Is it just the fan?

Did you have the recirculator on? I don't remember if I did or not. I'll try it again on my way home from work tonight, with the recirc on and off to see if it makes a difference.
