Drag radials and wheels suggestions?

Hey guys, I have 2014 GT and need some help on what size drag radials and wheels I should go for. I wanna go wide as possible without having to relocate the sway bar. Would a 305 work? If so, would it fit on 9" wheel?

You can fit a 305 on the rear, but you need a 10" wide wheel. Both Nitto and Mickey Thompson recommend a 10" wide wheel for their 305 tires.

I just went through this. American Muscle has a great deal right now on Charcoal Gray Laguna Seca Wheels. http://www.americanmuscle.com/charco...seca-1013.html

I went with 9 inch wide fronts, and 10" wide rear. I however opted out of a drag radial on the rear. I have the full adjustable Ford Racing suspension kit on my car and using a drag radial would defeat the handling characteristics of the car.

I spent the last week performing tire research. This is what I learned.

1. Michelin Pilot Sport tires appear to be the best out there. However they are expensive as all get out.

2. The Cooper RS3-S tires is what Roush uses on their cars and I have gotten great feedback from the Roush guys on these tires. However right now the 285 rear tires are on national back order.

3. The next best tire IMO, after performing lots of research, was the Continental Extreme Contact DW. This is the tire I ordered yesterday and they will arrive on Monday to my local tire retailer.

So on the front I went with a 255/40 and the rear a 285/35.

If you're in love with your factory wheels you can have them widened by weldcraft http://www.weldcraftwheels.com I almost went this route but they charge $250 per wheel and it didn't cost much more than that for 4 brand new wheels from AM. And the wait time for the wheel widening was 8 weeks as this is their busy time of the year and honestly I didn't want to wait that long.

I hope all of this helps.

If you go with a 15x10 you will have to relocate the sway and that's what's needed for 305 DR. Relocation is easy, but if you're wanting to stay away from relocating then you'll have to run 15x8 and a 275 DR.

Do you mean a 19x10 ?

I know of folks running a 305 DR and have not had to relocate the sway bar links.

No, it all depends if he wants a true drag set up which would be 15" wheels. Anything taller than 15" won't require relocation brackets.

I am running 17x10 american muscle bullitts wrapped in 315/35r17 NT05R Drag radials, they are a bit small but when they are warm, the car pushes my front 255/40zr19 P Zeros instead of a sitting burnout. the car hooks so well i have shiny red circles on my frame from the bump stops hitting under launch. the tires clear everything but only by millimeters

Hmmm okay. well I do like my stock wheels and thought about putting 275's on the rear in the future. I do a little racing here and there and really need some tires that'll grab the road from a dig which is why I've considered drag radials.

The wheels you have are (I believe) 8.5" wide, not 9"
The Track Pack/Brembo wheels are 9" wide, the other 19" GT wheels are 8.5"

That being said, fitting a 305 onto an 8.5" or even a 9" would not be the smartest thing to do, and most tire shops probably won't do it.

For a 305, 9.5" is the minimum, but 10"+ is much better, resulting in more contact patch, less sidewall bulge, and of course a safer fitment.

Now, you of course have the option of doing 18" wheels, and the SVT 18x9.5 wheels from the 2010 GT500 convertible will be more than happy taking a 305/40/18 drag radial ... it's what I've used for the last year with no issues

Also, 19" 305 tires are not very common ...
