Reminds me of a friend that was in the Field Artillery that never wore ear plugs when the 155's were firing. He always said "you get use to it".

What I want to know is...how do you "wash your car" with the door opened (to listen to the radio)?

I have a radio in the garage. I simply turn it on and wash the car with the doors closed.

But I'm not against anyone wanting to disable the buzzer/chime. That's what makes these sites great; someone figures it out and shares.

Make it a sticky.

I know this is an old thread, but I found it while looking for how to stop this noise on my 09 GT. Great info and I have successfully done the 'switch' mod. Basically exactly the same process as OrangeStang described - just the wire colours are different.

I've done a brief (since the above gives most of it anyway) picture write-up on my own webspace at Mike's Mustang in case anyone else wants to try it. The hardest part is probably getting the trim off to access the ignition switch assembly - it's a footbone...legbone...kneebone...thighbone kinda job

This won't work on a 2014, at least one with an OEM remote start installed. I know, I tried it. It'll kill the chime with the key in the ignition(off), but as soon as you turn on the key, the chime comes back.

Somehow that seems impossible. If you disconnect the wire that lets the system know a key is in the ignition then restarting the car won't magically make the wire reconnect itself. The system still gets no signal that a key is in the ignition so the chime won't sound.

I know it seems impossible but I installed a switch just like one of the posters did and the chime was there when the key was turned to the accessory position. The switch worked great(chime on/off) with the key inserted into the ignition. As soon as I turned the ignition to the "accessory or on" position, the chime came back. I tapped into the Blue/Gray wire which is the key in sensor wire.
I do have an OEM remote start on it and that particular wire runs to the "brains" of the r/s box. Maybe that's the problem? If it is somehow, I'd rather keep the r/s function than lose the chime.

Just bought a 2014 Fusion SE for my wife and my son just bought a 2010 Focus SE and I'm wanting to do this mod to both of them. Was trying to find the Radio Shack switch part # that I used and was having no luck, so I searched out this old thread.

It appears the mod will work on the Fusion (was messing around with wiring installing a Gentex Auto-Dimming/Homelink mirror ... found the wire and chime was gone with it disconnected) and the Focus electronics are very similar to the '11, so I'm 99% sure it will work on it too.

Wow, quite a few posts since I was last active on this forum, good to see others like my mod !!

I've been S550 crazy for the past couple of years ... but still have the '11. I've not done any mods to it lately and it's got over 120k miles on it. Will be ordering a 2016 base 100A Ecoboost to replace it next spring.

Looks like Radio Shack may have discontinued this # 275-1565 switch as all the google links to it were everywhere but RS. Found a guy on e-bay selling them for $3.99 shipped so I bought 4 of them.

I have the same issue on a 2011. I have the factory remote start as well.

I would like to figure out which wire to disconnect so that I can have the radio on and the door open without the annoying chime.

I truly believe that the chime is over engineered in every Ford vehicle EVER made. Which means that every other part of the vehicle would fail first before that $&@# thing!!!!!
