Disable Ignition Key-Door Open Chime on a 2011 ... YES !!
You've never wanted to sit in your car with the radio on and the door(s) open ??
Or your doing interior cleaning / vacuming and you want the radio on ??
Or you are working on something where you need the engine running and you want to leave the door open rather than constantly opening & closing it ??
Another solution could be to just interupt this wire with a switch that you mount under the dash ... this way you can turn it off when you want it off.
People who just "drive" cars ... never wash or clean them or do any maintenance themselves I can see sayining the door buzzer never annoys them, if anything they are glad it's there as they would be constantly locking their keys in the car.
99% (if not 100%) of the people who hang out on this web site are NOT this type or person and like me either disabled this key chime on cars in the past or always wanted to know HOW to do it.

Thanks Ken ... just went out and tried that on my car ... that is a great and simple way to defeat it as well.
However as you said, you then need to get in the habit of remembering to pull one of the handles before shutting the door.
For those of you that NEED the chime reminder ... Ken's way to defeat it may be your answer.
The other option would be to cut this wire and putting an interupt switch under the dash so you can turn it off when needed. I may end up doing this eventually.

One possible side effect is that the lockout prevention circuit (known as "Smart Locks") won't function. The wire you're disconnecting is the signal that a key is in the ignition cylinder. The chime is disabled because the system never knows there's a key in the ignition. Unfortunately, it also won't know you've left your key when you use the door switch to lock the doors, so you could potentially lock your keys in the car.
When I 1st read this reply, I thought you meant the "Auto Lock" & "Auto Un-Lock" features would be disabled (doors lock at around 12 MPH & un-lock when ignition is turned off and drivers door is opened) but this is not the case.

I "always" use the remote to lock and un-lock my doors. So if i did disconnect the wire it wouldn't be a problem for me. I'll probably do it the way Ken suggested.
that's great!!! you did an excellent job posting it with pics! THANK YOU.
at last i'm not alone seeing some guys who hate those non essential and irritating gizmos that serves to nothing! and cutting them off.we don't need a wistle a chime a buzz or any tricks to remind us of something we do with the car or forget etc.. we are the persons who drives it and not the car telling us what to do.
it felt good to say it!

Like I said Doug, very good write up, but I have been using that method for your while listening to the Radio in my F350, and it does help to get the bottom of the window clean on the inside without having to lay the seat back

Thought I'd give a follow up ...
After a week of driving (430 miles), no issues have popped up with this wire disconnected. The only other feature that appears to be defeated (beside the chime) is the "Smart Locks" that will not let you lock the doors with the key still in the ignition.
This is the 1st car I've ever owned with "Smart Locks" and I've always defeated the key-in-ignition buzzer so I've always had a hidden key somewhere on the outside of my cars so I can simply re-open the door if this happens.
Fortunately with the passive anti-theft on most new cars, this hidden "plain" key will no longer start the car so the possiblity of someone else finding it AND driving away can't happen.

UPDATE ... spliced Key-In-Ignition sence wire and ADDED a switch
Wanted a "push on / push off" type switch and one as small as possible. Went to 3 different auto parts stores & searched McMasterCarr.com and found nothing so I finally went to Radio Shack. They actually had 3 different "push on / push off" switches. # 275-1565 was the most compact and thought it would be best and cost only $2.99.
I did not want to drill a visible hole to mount the switch so I was hoping to find a spot under the dash. I then noticed that the tilt lever slot was longer than the lever so I wondered if it would be possible to somehow mount it inside the tilt lever slot ... here it would be within reach of the ignition making it easy to find and push.
Well, I think I found the perfect spot ... there is a plastic structure just in front of the tilt lever and there was a hollow area above it for the switch body & wires. Carefully drilled a 3/8" hole in the bottom of this and the switch fit perfectly. Only problem is the retaining nut would have been pretty tough to tighten ... luckily switch is tight in hole so it is more or less friction fit and nut is not needed.
Spliced a pair of Male & Female spade terminals into the Blue / Gray Stripe wire in the ignition switch harness and plugged my switch assy's. Male & Female teminals into these.
Pics pretty much tell the rest of the story ...

The major chimes are gone, but now I have an airbag light
So I was wondering if anybody would know this. I followed the instructions for disabling the key in ignition switch for the chime, and I also connected the blue-green wire and yellow-violet wire under the driver's seat for disabling the seat belt warning (I couldn't disable it with the owner's manual). The only problem is that I now have an airbag light that is on, and I don't know which project started it because I did both at the same time. I was wondering if anybody else has this problem, and if so if they had any advise. Not that its a problem, but I would prefer if the light was off. I am guessing that I still need to disconnect one more wire (not sure which) but anybody knows I would really like to find out.

Yeah, not sure it's wise to mess with the airbag wiring. Don't want it blowing up on you while you're traveling 70mph on the highway and sipping on coffee. That's the kind of thing that belongs in a Chris Farley movie.
