Diff in Autos & Manuals, perf times?
All the times I see are pretty much driven by manuals, right? About how much difference is there on say my Auto? Thanks!!

I was thinking right. I see this:
https://themustangsource.com/f726/12...4-45-a-489669/
It says an auto went 12.374 bone stock gt auto at 114.45.
I then read in my Car & Driver they had a manual, I guess go in 13.2 @ 109. I thought the manuals were faster than the autos? I'm catching crap from 1 forum on getting an auto. Just not sure why they are saying my auto is so wimpy & stuff. Thanks!!

Autos are easier to drive & are more consistent in the 1/4 mile IMO.Just hammer it & go.
However there are so many variables in drag racing & there's always the DRIVER MOD!
Also the manual just allows more control & really puts you in touch with the car.I have nothing against the auto but for me I had to have the manual.
As far as times don't believe everything you see or read.As i said earlier too many variables.Which means just because they ran a certain time w/ or w/o certain mods auto/manual doesn't mean you'll run that time.
So don't worry so much about which is faster just enjoy your BEAST

I will never race my car or anything like that. I do know people prefer their muscle cars to be manuals. Pre-coma I hated the idea of 1 with an auto trans! Now, boy am I glad they're made. I love my car just like it is. I was just wondering. Thanks!!

to me the advantage of the manual comes through on the track and twisties not necessarily on the drag strip. the new 5.0 is pretty rev happy and being able to rev match through turns gives the manual the advantage in my book.
people think i'm crazy, but i think the new mustangs should be driven in a similar fashion to high revving german cars due to the 7K redline and where the peak torque and horsepower meet.

Peak torque is at 4,250 rpm's, while peak hp is way up high (6,500 rpm's per the factory, but it's still climbing beyond that). But, I agree that you keep the "kettle on the boil" by running close to redline to extract the most of the 5.0

As many have said, drag strip times have too many variables (namely drivers ability when in a manual) to label which is faster based SOLELY on straight line acceleration and 1/4 mile times.
A 16 year old girl with 6 months driving experience can get an auto 5.0 to run nearly as good as a pro by simply doing a minor brake torque launch and going.
But a 16 year old girl with same 6 months driving experience would be lucky to get a 15 second 1/4 mile in manual GT unless she's driven the car before.
Heck many 30+ years olds who OWN the 2011 GT would be lucky to do better than mid 13's at most tracks.
It just takes a whole different level of driving experience and ability to get the best times out of a manual driven car.
If I had to say on average which was faster (auto or manual, stock for stock) I'd have to say the manual.
Sure the autos are much easier to launch, shift faster than any manual driver can and therefore may on average have a tenth faster ET with .5-.7 mph faster trap speeds, but again much of that is due to the launch and needing zero driver ability for shifting.
But to remove the launch equation to determine which CAR is faster with which transmission, do rolling acceleration runs.
Sure driver ability is still in play when a manual is concerned, but the most difficult part of accelerating a manual the best is in the launch and hitting 2nd gear.
A 2nd gear start of say 40 mph and going up to say 130 mph still requires a manual driver to nail 3 shifts perfectly and as fast as possible, but that's much easier to do than launching perfectly and grabbing 2nd gear perfectly.
The auto car may have the advantage in the shifts, but the manual car puts more power to the ground and is lighter, plus has shorter final drive ratios. All of which I'd say give the manual a slight advantage when accelerating with a great driver behind the wheel.
Now by "perf times" you are referring to performance times on a race track and there is no competition. The auto 5.0 GT will have no chance against a manual driven car (with equal ability drivers) on a race track.
The auto just doesn't allow the driver control the manual does in order to get the fastest times (and have the most fun) on a race track (or even a nice canyon carving road run).
