No worries......I agree Ford should never rest on their laurels and competition is good for the breed. The V6 does (and of course will) need upgrading but sometimes choosing a car comes down to more than how it compares to the competition.....it's how it makes you feel

However, I really look forward to the V6 no longer being that underdog

I think ford is just trying to make the V6 marketable to more people... people that just want to get in their car and go... and the V8 to people who care about power....

I think that is how it typically has been, but this car seems set to break that mold with a power to weight ratio more akin to the new edge SN95 GT's than any recent, non V8 offering. The new V6 powered car should be a mover.

Who cares, you can count the 4.0's remaining months on one hand.

I think the new V6 will be a huge step in the right direction. Imagine a V6 with a 6 spd manual, some sort of sport package that included a LSD, good brakes and a decent suspension vs. the bread and butter suspension that is on the car now. The car will weigh less than the 4.6L with better weight distribution to boot. A good tune and some other select parts could get this car in the 330hp range. No reason such a car couldn't be had for less than $28k.

Makes me consider such a car...hmmm.

It had better be a whole lot less than $28k, unless you add every option available. Like around $5k less. You can get the current V6 Mustang starting around $20k, and the current GT at around $28k IIRC.

Of course the current V6 base Stang is a cheap way to get Mustang style without paying for the substance, is that any surprise to anybody? That the current V6 Stang chugs along with an ancient truck motor, has a flaccid suspension and wispy brakes? No revelations there.

With no real direct competition, Ford could a did get away with it with a somewhat insipid base model, but no longer as now there is real competition and Ford has to and apparently is upping there game with the V6..

So the real question with the C&D piece is that they trashed the V6 Stang, revealing nothing new, but why they even bothered. Perhaps they needed to fill some space, had one in the motor pool for some odd reason, and perhaps figured it would be a good set up for a subsequent test of next years revised V6 model. Hopefully, in addition to the MUCH better 3.7 coming down the pike, backed by a proper six-speed tranny, the V6 model will inherit some current GT suspension and brake bits since that model will be getting uprated to the 5.0 and will need much better running gear than it now has. That could make the V6 model an actual, viable performance car rather than a sedate secretary's special. Will be interesting to see.

I think this review points out a flaw in ford's rollout plan for the new engines. All of the upgraded vehicles big reviews and road tests are the 2010 models. the 2011s probably are not going to get much more than a "short take" in the mags. Plus all of this negative press exists out there around the older engines. this goes for the raptor as well. you dont want every review to read, "its great but...." the initial launch is where you get all your big press. the 2011 announcement is going to be a press release where the 2010 intro was a web cast event with a countdown clock, 2010 unleashed website and such. would have been nice to put that all into one big bang

I'm talking about the V6 stang I described, sport package with LSD fully loaded with nav and such.

You think they would just announce the drivetrains and get people excited. The '10 was a bomb when it has come to sales so its not like they are going to sell thousands more by not announcing them. They will be giving the '10's away in the spring there are so many still on lots right now.

You got that right and once they announce the new engine line then the 10's will be even harder to sell, maybe a buy a 2011 and and get a 2010 free!

5L Mustang will be Front Page in the major mags, guaranteed. It's a major drivetrain change, and the possibility of stock Brembos ups the ante even more. Look for a new Camaro/Mustang/Challenger shoot-out in all the major mags next year

I can't wait for the 2011's. If the rumors are true, it's going to be a great year for Ford. I'm leaning toward the V-6 all standard equipment with an automatic trans. I'm old LOL!!! and a 300 horsepower 6 cylinder will be plenty for me. The best i can tell is the 3.7L with 273 horsepower in a car weighing over 4,000 pounds with AWD, does 0 to 60 in around 7.5 seconds. This 3.7L with somewhere around 300 horsepower should scream in a Mustang.

It's crazy how cars are just getting more and more powerful. Most modern family sedans are quicker than the big block muscle cars of the 60s. It's great!

Eh, the Mustang has still out-sold the Camaro by 9000 this year and almost tripled those of the Challenger. Good figures when you consider the horrible economy and the fact that the Camaro is a huge first year, nostalgic success and surely stole a bunch of sales.

Competition tends to even out the sales...can you imagine what the sales would have been if Ford trotted out the tired '05-'09 design for one more year?

Yeah, I'm with you on this one. I think the V-6 model will be receiving major attention too, particularly if it can runs 13's, a feat which would pit that car directly against cars like the MS3 and WRX.

Eh, my Ford dealer has added a $1k markup to all the 2010s on the lot. I thought I was seeing things. Apparently sales are very good for them right now, being the only Ford dealer in the East Bay now. They have one 09 GT left btw, Vapor Silver with HIDs, Navi, spoiler delete, standard Bullitts and black interior. If anyone is interested.
