Dec 2009 Car and Driver trashes V6 Mustang

Page 125 of the Dec 09 Car and Driver has a "Short Take" on the Mustang V6 and they trashed it. They compared it with the Camaro and Genesis regarding power, handling, etc. To a certain extent, they are right. Why DO the Camaro and Genesis V6, although are smaller, put out almost 100 more horse than the Mustang?

They said "V6 Accords will walk all over this pony car". They complained about the brakes and rear axle too. Again, I think they have some valid points which I am hoping will be fixed with the 2011. I have the V8 GT but their points apply to that engine as well.

They conclude "..that makes the Mustang a great value to the demographic group that cares only for looks. We are not among it."

C&D doesn't seem to like mustangs at all.

The current V6 is a very, very old high torque truck engine.
It will not be in the car much longer.
Let them take their shots while they still can.

I read that article too. It was close, but they did rank the Mustang slightly higher than the Camaro. My girlfriend just rented a 2010 v6 on a trip to South Carolina and said it was a pooch. Granted, she's comparing it to my GT, but she said it didn't seem much quicker than her 09 Fusion I4.

They were down on my body style Mustang big time, but they loved the '05 GT and the '05 V6,but that was back in '04. The current V6 is behind the times,i'm glad it's being replaced next year.

Hopefully it'll be a VERY different story in a few months time

But, you know what, even if the current V6 Mustang is the underdog I'm a Mustang (and Ford) guy through and through, so it'd be my choice over any of the competition

Is C&D the rag with Brock Yates? He's a whiny douche bag. I remember several years ago, C&D TV did a road test of the then-new Mach1. He complained about not being able to see over the hood Go back to your pansy *** quaint little Jap cars Brock, leave the Muscle Cars to people who really love performance machinery.

He's also co-piloted a Ferrari Daytona with Dan Gurney when they won the Cannonball Run,among other things,so i'd be more apt to listen to his opinions on cars moreso than say......you.

I'm not really sure why they would be going over this car at this point and trashing the engine. Anyone who knows ANYTHING about cars knows this engine is old, outdated and on its way out. It seems to me they did it just to do it and take cheap shots.

F em.

And people wonder why I don't read "Car and Driver." Funny thing is I live in a house with three Honda Accord owners these cars can't come near my mustang in terms of speed and performance.

Who ever is writing the Car and Driver article probably owns a Honda Accord. I say lets trash "Car and Driver."

Below is the link to the article. When I read the article I got the impression that the author was eating Kraft Easy Mac and Cheese at the same time.

Who cares? It's just another opinion. There have been worse things said. I mean, how were the things he were saying untrue tho? The v6 is underpowered, the brakes need a major upgrade, and the suspension needs to be reworked- that's not earth shattering insights. That's the common thought throughout this forum. Because he threw in a wise-*** remark or 2... lol so what!? It's a magazine.

Tho in the same thought (as stated before) Car & Driver's Mustang GT/Camaro SS/Challenger RT- they gave the 1st place spot to the Mustang GT.

I'm over it. This article came out 2.5 months ago.
Bring on 2011.

I feel the article is spot on. The current V6 is very very dated.

If C&D does a review next year with the new drivetrain, I think they will have a different spin on things.

Believe it or not being a Fanboi of the Mustang is actually hurting the breed. Ford needs to realize that there is competition out there or the car will never be improved. Now I am not saying you shouldn't get what you want and if the Mustang is it..great. I too was once with the same feeling about Ford and the Mustang. I strayed in 2001 when I bought my first foreign automobile, it was a 2001 BMW E46 M3 and I saw the light.

Ford is finally seeing the light and realize that almost isn't good enough anymore not in this enviroment of cars near the same price point that deliver much better levels of performance and refinement.

Please don't take this as being disrespectful but I just wanted to point this out.
